Retail slores in Des Moines, Iowa, were reported “showing large gains over last year,” as were those of St. f jouis and Kansas City. leading hard- j Runs Into Auto But Eiffht-Year Old Yells “No’ and Scampers When Doc tor Is Mentioned John Everett, eight-year-old Vass school boy, reversed the usual pro cedure and ran into an automobile on Tuesday afternoon, the accident occurring on Highway No. Iwhere it crosses the street leading to the Vass-Lakeview school building. The automobile was not damaged, neither was John, for when the driver of the car mentioned taking the lad to the doctor, he empha sized his “No!” with a beautiful cross-country sprint. According to one of John’s little classmates, “John thought he was going to run back of the car.” The child, who was crossin? the high- way^ien route to his home, evident ly had up more speed than he knew for he ran against the side of the car and was knocked down.
