VIVIAN BUSHONG,
AN EXPERIENCED
ECONOMIST, COMING
Will Demonstrate All-Electric
Model Kitchen in The
Pilot School
EXPERT IN HER LINE
■When the all-electric kitchen demon
stration, sponsored by The Pilot opens
at the Civic Club in Southern Pines on
Thursday and Friday of next week
home-makers of' Moore county will
be fortunate in having as their in
structor a home service expert of
wide experience, Miss Vivian Bush-
ong, of the Home Service Depart
ment of the Carolinn Power & Light
Company. j
Miss Bushong has a wide reputa
tion as a home economics authority. ^
Before her connection with the Car
olina Power & Light Company she ,
spent several years in home service ‘
work and conducting public demon
strations of manufactured food pro-
ducts. For more than four years, as
a member of the Home Service De- [
partment of the Carolina Power & |
Light Company, she has been engag- |
ed in educational and research work, '
and in this capacity has conducted [
hundreds of electric cooking schools
for newspapers and women’s organi
zations.
She has done a great deal towards
making the kitchen “the new guest
room of the home.” Her built-in all
electric kitchen, which will be
brought here for the cooking school,
is the last word in ideal arrangement.
Refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and
cabinets are so placed that an en
tire meal can be prepared with a
minimum of steps, time, and effort.
Inasmuch as the kitchen is the work
shop of the home-maker a planning
desk is included in the arrangement.
For her entertainment while making
preparations for a meal a space is
provided for a radio. A telephone,
and every other piece of equipment
used frequently by the average house
wife, is within convenient reach in
the kitchen, and consequently add to
the pleasure of her work while re
ducing the number of steps she is
required to take.
Miss Bushong will bring to her
audience a host of new range and
refrigerator recipes, as well as new
ideas for menu planning. She will dis
cuss also modern kitchen arrange
ment, marketing, food preservation,
and attractive as well as economical
ways to use left-overs.

The magic of electricity for all

I use of left-overs formerly thrown
away, and through the ease of prep-
I aration of inexpensive frozen desserts.
' She will also show how you may save
time and effort through advanced
preparation of meals. Delicious and
tempting refrigerator desserts will
be prepared. Cake batter, which can

the ease with whi^ch an electric range

preparing vegetables she will show
that practically no water is required.

Ml CH TIME IS WASTED i
The average American housewife is j
not on N. R. A. schedule, according !
to a study made by the Home Ser. |
vice Department of the Carolina Pow
er & Light Company.
“Many housewives spend on the
average of three hours daily in plan
ning and preparing meals, one hour
in washing dishes, three and one-
third hours in cleaning and other
kitchen duties," says Miss Vivian
Bushong. ‘‘This is a total of seven and
one-third hours per day, or 2,877
hours a year, to say nothing of the
hours spent in other house work."
It is the purpose of The Pilot to
bring you information which, if put
into practice, will shorten materially
the hours spent in the kitchen. Mer-
this the most modern and complete
chants who are participating to make
school ever to be conducted in
Southern Pines are furnishing
equipment which will add to the
comfort and convenience of the home
maker and which plays an import-
I ant part in efficient home manage-
I ment.
j If suggeslions made by Miss Bus-
1 hong are put into practice, and each
I suggestion will be practicable, a code
limiting the work of the housewife
! will not be necessary.
A capacity audience is expectef^ on
the opening day, Thursday, June 21.
j Arrangements for comfortable seat
ing have been completed and you are
assured that the school will be inter
esting and beneficial.
