The Pilot
so successful — movement, laughter,
thrills and drama. But to nearly
everybody “Murder in the Private
Car’ will be cracking good enter,
tainment, with more than usually fine
comedy. Charlie Rugglres to begin
with, tops the cast of featured play
ers and around him evolves the in
triguing story. The cast includes Mary
Carlisle, Una Merkel, Russell Hardie
and Snow Flake, a colered thespian.
Much of the action take,« place on a
private car attached to the rear of a
transcontinental train speeding from
Los Angeles to New York. The plot
begins to move with lightning speed
when the rear car is detached from
the train by unseen hands at the top
of a steep mountain grade, and be
gins to roar backward down the hill, >
out of control. All the principals are
in it. In the resultant pandemonium
laughs and thrills follow each other
so rapidly that the audience is com
pletely hysterical. "Murder In The
Private Car” is entertainmeut for the
whole family", and is enthusiastically
recommended.
Frances Fuller, petite and charming
brunette actress, who sf.ored such a
dramatic success in Paramount’s “One
Sunday Afternoon" with Gary Coop
er, is featured in her second picture
role in Paramount’s “Elmer and El
sie,’' also featuring George Bancroft,
Roscoe Karn.s and George Barbier
coming Thursday, Friday and Satur
day, August 9, 10, 11, with a Satur
day matinee. Adapted from the suc-
ce.ssful Broadway stage play, “Ladies
First,” by George S. Kaufman and
Marc Connelly, “Elmer and Elsie” is
a down-to-earth drama of a typical,
earnest American couple, Bancroft
and Miss Fuller play the roles of
a good-natured, amiable truck-driver
and his plucky, intelligent ’ittJe wife.
Bancroft is presented as a happy
but unambitious worker, whose chief
concern is a good time, and whose
chief worry is making his wages last
until the next pay day rolls around.
When Miss F\iller comes into Ms life
all that is changed.
