Friday, October 12, 1934. THE PILOT, Southern Pines and Aberdeen, North Carolina A. Good Neighbors, the Greatest Asset o{ a Community, Are Plentiful Here Charm of Life is the Contact With Fine People We Have Around Us Blon II. Butler I have told of many thing.s in the Sandhill country that make this a delightful place for me to live but I have not mentioned the one chief asset the one that has no approxi mate factor in its value and that is my neighbors and acquaintances. No ’doubt the great charm about life is the contact with the excellent peo ple we have around us wherever we go. Maybe other places have neigh bors just as good as we have here. I have never been any place that I did not find people whose company was much appreciated, even in a game of old sledge, one time locked in jail with a man awaiting trial for murder, another for horsestealing and a third for some other crime. I mar veled at the good qualities these fel lows showed as we played our game and waited for the sheriff to come and let me out. It is my opinion that people are very much better than we give them credit for. But I am getting away from my story which is the good friends and neighbors we have here in the Sand hills. John McQueen, for instance, broadminded philosopher, thoughtful of every one, sincere, living for oth ers more than for himself, an intelli gent, human fellow, a man whose acquaintances would make perdition tolerable while he stayed around there. Rex Cole introduces many spirited Western horses with their Holly wood Ranch Wild West. There are bucking bronks, trick horses and Western stock of all descriptions.
