Your Red Cross Dollar the Enemy of Disease (Continued from page 1) gencies; the remaining fifty cents is divided between the Branch Coun ty Chairmen and a National County Fund, two-thirds to the Branch County Chairmen, one-third to the National County Fund. The County Fund is held over until the following autumn to be- used in whatever main charitable project the county may I have in mind. So everywhere, and in all ways, the Red Cross is at work. This year the main project of Moore county is to engage a county nurse who, behides her regular duties, will start a campaign for home nursing and conduct classes in home nursing, and anyone who knows any thing at all of Moore county will rec ognize the imperative necessity for 3uch work. So do not, even if by chance the Red Cross solicitor fails to find you, fail yourself to send in your mem bership. Financial disaster is not as near to us at it was a year ago; not nearly so near as it was two years ago; and therefore more people can afford to become members of the Red Cross. But every other form of disaster is still fairly constant, and its most stalwart enemy is the dol lar you subscribe. THANKSGIVING DINNER — 1 to 2:30 o’clock—Highland Lodge. The cast supporting Miss Garbo, is of more than ordinary class. The men who made her life a vivid drama of romance, are Herbert Mar shall and George Brent, and others in the supporting cast are Warner Oland, Jean Hersholt, Beulah Bondi, Kathe rine Alexander and Cecilia Parker. The attraction at Pinehurst Wed nesday, November 28th, matinee and night is a faithful translation of Mrs. Montgomery’s famous story, “Anne of Green Gables.” Perhaps it is best described by an outstanding critic, who wrote, after seeing a private pre view: “Here is a masterpiece of screen entertainment, if there ever was one. It is one of the most human and heart warming stories ever brought to the screen and judging by the impressive reception it received at a preview screening, it bids fair to out do "Lit tle Women” in popularity. It is a type of film that the older women will cherish for the fond memories of their own childhood, and for the younger women, the delightful “Anne” w’ill be a source of never ending joy.” Ann Shirley, who is destined to be one of the "raves” of the season, plays the lead. The attraction is also playing a return engagement at the Southern Pines Theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December tJ, 7, 8, with a Saturday matinee. The attraction at Pinehurst on Fri day, November 30th, matinee and night, entitled "It’s a Gift,” will prove to be one grand hohday, both for W. C. Fields and for his mahy admiring fans. Baby LeRoy i.s with Mr. Fields again in a relationship similar to that which was theirs in "The Old Fashioned Way.” The plot has Mr. Fields in the role of an har- rassed husband who buy.s a Califor nia orange grove and takes his fam ily West in a flivver that falls apart. After many tribulation,'!, they hit it rich. Needless to say, “It’s a Gitt” is full of laughs. L. Sco field, of New York, was beaten by Halbert J. Blue, of Pittsburgh, 1 up, in 19 holes, in the semi-final round of the nineteenth annual Carolina golf tournament yesterday. Scofield was 1 up playing the se venteenth, but the penalty, which was unseen by Blue, cost' Scofield the hole and eventually the match.
