The Week in Vass Christmas programs, to which the public is cordially invited, will be pre sented by the various churches in town and the schedule is as follows: At 6:15 o’clock this Sunday even ing', the Baptist Sunday School and B. Y. P. U. will present a cantata, “The First Christmas,” and other short exercises. On the same evening at 7:15, the regular church service will be held in the Presbyterian church, and in con nection with this a tableau, “The Christmas Angel Takes Charge,” w'ill be presented. "Joy Gifts” for minis terial relief will be brought in at this service. On Monday evening at 7:00 o’clock, the little folks of the Presbyterian church school will give a short pro gram. At 7:45 o’clock Monday evening in the Methodist church a “White Gift” service in the form of a pageant. “As With Gladness Men of Old,” will be given by the young people. An offer ing Tor the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh will be received. The Vass Woman's Club met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. W. H. Keith with Mrs. G. W. Brooks, Mrs. G. W. Griffin and Miss Nettie Gschw’ind as associate host esses. The civics department, of which Mrs. Emma Laubscher is chairman, presented the following program: “What is Civics?” by Mrs. S. R. Smith; “What I Would do with $150,” by Miss Nettie Gschwind; “A Pine Tree in Winter,” by Mrs. Laub scher and “A Christmas Thought,” by Mrs. W. J. Cameron. A special feature was a Christmas reading by Mr*. C. A. Lawrence. During the business session reports of the Red Cross drive and the lunch room W'jie given. The club voted to buy additional lights for its com munity Christmas tree. Miss Mary Beasley of Apex and VaFS was re ceived into membership. A social hour of outstanding inter est following the meeting and its main feature was a surprise birth day shower honoring the club’s sec ond oldest member, Mrs. D. C. McGill. After various contests had been en joyed, the hostesses brought into the living room a table loaded with at tractive package.s and announced that the members w.-re to do their Christmas shopping. The packages contained the gift.s which had been sent in earlier in the day. Each mem ber visited the table and selected a package and the “price” was the per formance of some specified stunt. Af ter the shopping was completed, a <shout of "happy birthday” arose and Mrs. McGill was .showered with the gifts. The hostesses served refreshments in keeping with the holiday season. A large crowd greeted the Moore County Orchestra when it made its first appearance in Vass on last Fri day evening, and much favorable comment has been heard. The program consisted of nine se lections by the orchestra, which was under the direction of Prof. F. H. Ponish, with Mrs. Ponish at the piano, and a group special numbers, as fol lows: Trombone solo, Clifton Barnes ■of Carthage; trumpet solo, Kelly Baker of Carthage; piano solo, Flor ence Fry of Pinehurst; piano solo. I John Barnes of Carthage; clarinet duet, Francis McLeod and Archie Lee Barnes of Carthage, and a vio- I lin solo by six-year-old Janet Rosser of Vass. Janet won loud applause by her rendition of the first movement from Seitz’ Concerto in G. Others playing in the orchestra in cluded Misses LaMar Spencer, Carl ton Grier Fry. Lawrence Hinson, Minnie Belle Fry and Carolyn Doub, f all of Carthage; Mrs. R. G. Rosser, Mrs. S. R. Smith, Robert Rosser and John Rosser, of Vass; Miss Edna ' Frye and Lewis Frye of Pinehurst, and Edward Prizer of Southern Pines. ' Mrs. F'. L. Dees and little daughter. Sara, of Pinehurst visited Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McMillan and family Sun day afternoon. ‘ Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor and Miss Louise Leslie spent Saturday and Sunday in Charlotte. Mrs. A. G.
