Huntley and son, Court ney went to Raleigh the first of the week, Mrs. Huntley will visit friends for a few days while Courtney is be ing estabH^hed as a page in the Sen ate during this session of the Legis lature. Misses Bernice Wicker and Ethel Moore of Plnehurst wer^ guests of Misses Edythe, Dorothy and Louise Wicker last week-end. Miss Ruth Sale of Raleigh spent a few days in Aberdeen last week as the guest of Mrs. Walter Banker. Fred Flinchum is closing out his business here and with his family is moving to Sanford soon. He will be connected with a handkerchief fac tory there. Haney Harris spent several days in Charlotte last week attending the Westinghouse Electrical convention. Tom Johnston and Henry A. Page, in, spent several dayg in Aberdeen last week visiting relatives. Bridge Club Mrs. Dan I Allred wa? hostess to her bridge club last Friday after noon at her home, entertaining at three table.s. Mre. E. B. Maynard was the winner of the high score prize and Mrs. Jack Smith the second prize. Mi.ss Erma Herring was a special guest. CAMERON Mrs. J. D. McLean was gracious hostess Friday afternoon to Circle No. 2 of the Presbyterian Woman’s Aux iliary. Mias Effie Gilchrist conducted the devotional, and Mrs. Jewell Hem phill was program leader. A report of work done in five for eign countries was given by Misses Effie and Margaret Gilchrist and Mesdames Herbert Mclnni,<?, M, D. Mclver and Jewell Hemphill. Mrs. Clarence Perry of Winston-Sa- I Averitt. lem spent this week visiting her aunts, Mrs. J. D. Thompson and Miss Bessie Gunter. Mrs. Perry was for merly Miss Susie Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Gooch, who have spent some time in this section, Mrs.. Gooch at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Wilder while Mr. Gooch was taking treatment at the State Sana torium, left last Monday for Tuscon, Arizona. Mr. Davis from Rockingham, who is associated with the Mid-South Mo tor Company, has moved his family to Aberdeen and will occupy the D. 1. McKeithen residence. Mrs. Dillon Jordan and Misses Myr tle Jordan and Marguerite Hunt spent last Wednesday in Raleigh. Mrs. Leo Page of Rockingham ar rived last Tuesday to visit her moth er and Bister, Mrs. Lillie Blue and Mrs. H. H. Bradshaw. Mrs. Jennie Blue, Mrs. Bonnie Blue and Mrs. Kate Covington of Raeford visited Mias Mary Johnson last Sun day. I Mrs. Fred Blue and children spent last week-end with relatives at Lum- berton. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Allred announce the arrival of a son, James Wilson, on January 9th. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Gibson of Rockingham were in town Saturday to see Mrs. Gibson's mother, Mrs. Janie Muse, who has been in bed with rheumatism for several days. Miss Rachael Gilchrist, head of the Nursery School here, left Monday to accept seventh grade work in the school at Apex. Miss Maggie McLean of Carthage, after a week’s visit with Mrs. J. E. Snow, returned home Friday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. TaJly, who have been in Buffalo, N. Y. visiting their son, J. B. Tally and family for a month, returned home Tuesday. Mrs. Tally was in bed two weeks with bronchitis, but is now much improv ed. Miss Annie Hartsell, who has been ill with influenza for two weeks, is slowly improving. Miss Frances Ma,tthews of Pine- hurst, visited her mother, Mrs. Geor- gie Matthews one evening la.st week. Miss Catherine McDonald of the Hemp faculty spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don ald McDonald. Misses Katie Harrington who haf been confined to her room with influ The installation of officers of officers of Souihern Pines Camp No. 24, United Spanish War Veterans, took place Tue.sday evening. Prior to the installation, the ladies of the Baptist Church served a bountiful dinner and were given a vote of praise by the camp. Post Commander J, \yoodward installed the following officers; Com mander, F. H. Wilson; Senior Vice Co’nmander, J. M. Windham; Junior Vice Commander, W. M. Milam; Ad jutant, Robert Skinner; Quartermas ter, W. T. Ives; Tru.stee, three years, E. J. Woodward; Chaplain, W. C. Morton; Officer of the Day, E. J. Woodward; Officer of the Guard, Hugh McDonald. The retiring commander, Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee, the only woman Camp commander in the United States, and a retired assistant sur geon general of the U. S. Cheatham will preach at the Baptist Church in Southern Pines. When the first picture was formed of the Sandhills as a playground Dr. Cheatham added to it worship. When he had organized and built the Vil lage Chapel he did not leave it nor shut himself into it but remained here the servant of religion to the entire section.
