THE PILOT, Sowthcrn Pines and Aberdeen, North Crolinm
Friday, March 8, 1935.
Cameron and Community
The elementary program render
ed Friday evening in the school aud
itorium was fine in every detail, and
reflected much credit to teachers and
pupils. “Wanted a Wife,” by the six
th grade, and “Daisy Almost Didn’t
Pass,” by the fourth grade, received
great applause, while “Waiting for
the Train,” by the seventh grade,
went over the top, the audience be
ing almost convulsed with laughter.
The “Tom Thumb Wedding,” was the
crowning glory of the program,
which was supervised by Mrs. R. F.
Lowry, Misses Minnie Muse, Ellen
Royal Jones and Mary Hentz.
Characters were: Bride, Peggy
Comer; Groom, Tom Cameron; Flow
er girls, Mary Frances Cameron and '
Mary Ruth Doby; Ring BBearers.
Daniel Kelly; Mother of bride, John- ^
sie Kelly; Father of bride, Roger'
Comer; Soloists, Edith McDonald and
Frank Comer; Bridesmaids, Sybil
Cooper, Nannie Ruth Cameron. Mar
tha Ann Moses, Doris Davis, Ruth
Douglas and Clara L. Cameron.
Groomsmen, Greer Edwards, Ralph
Badgett. Burton Smith, Dillard Hop
kins, Jim Guthrie and Kent Harbor.
Minister, Glen Key.
The dainty little bride was truly
a vision of loveliness; she is a per
fect blonde, with large, deep blue
eyes, golden ringlets and a sweet
happy expression. The school w'as par
ticularly fortunate in having such a
rarely beautiful child to take this
important part in this spectacular
wedding.
At the home of Mrs. H. D. Tally,
on Thursday evening of last week,
Mrs. H. O. Averitte was charming
hostess to the Merry-Makers. Bridge
and parchesi featured the evening’s
entertainment.
“The Little Spectator,” the school
journal which began its career on a
single sheet, appeared last week in
double its original size. The contest
for the naming of the paper, which
w£is open to all the school, closed
February 20. The Journalism Club,
by voting on the submitted names, se
lected “The Little Spectator,” which
was turned in by Miss Doris Mc
Pherson of the seventh grade. The
staff comprises Editor-in-Chief, El
len Kate McMillan; Business Mana- j
ger, C. B. Harrington; Editors, Ma- j
rie Parker, Mary Smith, Ernestine
Snipes and Ortan Cameron. |
Her many friends will regret to j
learn that Miss Minnie Muse, third
grade teacher, was confined to her |
bed last week with laryngitis. Mrs. |
H. O. Averitte supplied her place in
the school room. !
Miss Flora May McFadyen of the ^
Elizabethtown School faculty, and ’
Miss Jessie McFadyen of Fayette- '
ville, spent the week-end with their |
mother, Mrs. Georgie McFadyen. :
Mrs. John C. Bruton and daughters,
Misses Grace, Ruth, Jane, Margaret
and Elizabeth of Columbia, S. C.,
were guests Sunday of Miss Mamie
Arnold and Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Mc-
Iver of Route 1.
Mr. and Mrs. George McDermott,
Misses Mary Ferguson, (Margaret
McDermott June Mclver Hemphill,
Idell Thomas, George and John Mc
Dermott were at Flora Macdonald j
College Sunday afternoon to see Miss ^
Flora Phillips. ■
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Muse Hem- |
phill of Hendehson were week-end j
guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Me-1

Miss Etta McDonald, daughter of
John K, McDonald and Mary Oole
McDonald of the W'hite Hill commun
ity died at the old homestead, where
she was born some 72 years ago, last
Sunday morning. She was a woman
of many admirable traits of charac
ter and a member for many years of
the White Hill Presbyterian church.
Funeral services were held from the
Buffalo Presbyterian Church on Mon
day at 12 o’clock, conducted by a for
mer pastor, the Rev. M. D. McNeill
of Cameron, assisted by the pastor,
the Rev. Mr. Morrison. Interment was
in Buffalo cemetery. Miss McDonald’s
passing leaves only one member of
this large family on this side of the
vale, a brother, Martin Cameron, who
resides at the old homestead.
Pete Phillips, young son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Phillips, a graduate of
Presbyterian Junior College, has op
ened a hardware store in the brick
building on Maine street.
