Mrs. Earle Merrill and Miss Lenora Riggan spent last week-end in Ral eigh. C. T. Patch and H. A. Jackman are spending this week in Florida. Charles-F. Farrell of Newark, N. J., arrived last Saturday and is a guest at the Mid-Pines Club for the spring season. Mrs. A. C. Weigl left Wednesday for her home in East Orange, N. J., after spending the past two months in Southern Pines visiting her son. Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Upchurch have gone to Clinton where they will make their home. Mr. Upchurch has re cently entered into the drug business there. Edward Oox has returned to Louis- burg College in Louisburg after spending the week-end with his par ents, the Rev. and Mrs. W. E. Cox. Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Wicker have gone to Portland, Maine where they will visit relatives. Mrs. J. S. Milliken and Mrs. E. V. Perklnson were visitors in Raleigh last week. Of interest to friends here comes the news that Miss Alice Marie Squires, student at the Women’s Col lege of the University of North Car olina. has been elected to the honor ary fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa. Because of the steeplechase races which are to be held Saturday after noon, the Thistle Club has voted to omit its weekly bridge tea on that day. The club will meet as usual the following Saturday afternoon, March 23rd. Robert Plummer of Wilmington was the guest of his sister, Mrs. John Ruggles last Thursday and Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Milliken had as their guests last week Mr. and Mrs. Fisher Makepeace of Sanford. Mrs. Barrett Harris has returned home after an Illness at the Moore County Hospital. Harry A. Sanders has returned to the Hollywood Hotel from a ten-day visit to St. Petersburg and Jackson ville, Fla. Mr. Sanders will spend the spring sea.son here before returning to his home in Maine. Mrs. Burrell G. White, Jr., has ar rived from New York to visit her father-in-law, Burrell G. White at his home in Knollwood. Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Stutts are back from a visit in Virginia. Mrs. Harris Cashion has returned from Hoffman where she visited rel atives over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Johnson of Kushequa, Pa., are spending two weeks with the latter’s mother, Mrs. E. K. Kane at their home on Indiana avenue. Miss KaKtherine Riggan is spend ing a few days in Southern Pines be fore resuming her duties as assistant dean at Salem College in Winston- Salem. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Howland and daughter, Mrs. Roe, of Syracuse, N. Y., have taken the Hayden cottage on Broad street for several weeks. Dr. and Mrs. Howard Grose and daughter have arrived from Mt. Ver non. N. Y., and have taken the Thomas Barron house on May street for the remainder of the season. Mr. and Mrs. Will H. Towles will arrive in Southern Pines the latter part of this week from Florida en route to their home in Washington. Mr. Towles, who is a well-known photographer, will be a guest of E. C. Eddy during his visit here. Alex McLeod, infant son of Drs. W. G. and Vida C. McLeod, is mak ing satisfactory progress following an operation last Saturday at the Sterberger Childrens’ Hospital in Greensboro, where he has been un dergoing treatment for the past five week? under the care of Dr. S. F. Ravenel. Mrs. Nellie Sanborn has leased her cottage on Connecticut avenue to Mrs. M. C. Wallace and Miss N. C. Strippel of Kewgardens, N. E. for the remainder of the season. Miss Martha V. Ritchie of Beaver, Pa., is spending some time here as ' the guest of Mrs. R. V. Carstens. Mrs. C. B. Farnsworth has as her guest Stephen Budd, master of the hunt at Litchfield, Conn.
