Eddy and fam ily have closed their home and left Sunday for New Hampshire where they will spend the summer. Mrs. Lillian Miles, Mrs. Brown and C. T. Patch are back frum a short vacation in Florida. Mrs. A. J. Drew and son have re turned to their home on Indiana ave nue after occupying one of Mrs. Hutt’s apartments on Ridge street for several months. Mrs. Julia Vanderveer left this week for Withville, Va., where she will join her daughter, Miss Marietta Vanderveer for the summer. The Vanderveers occupied an apartment at The Resthaven this past winter. Miss Doris Swett, who has been visiting Miss Alice Southworth, left Tuesday night for the north. Cletus Waechter, who was a grad uate of Sacred Heart Academy at Asheville this spring, is visiting Miss Theresa Montesanti. Miss Montesanti has arrived from Sacred Heart Acad emy at Asheville to spend the sum mer with her parents. Edward Cox has arrived home from Louisburg College to spend the sum mer. Mrs. George W. Monroe left Friday for Hendersonville where she will spend the summer. Miss Lenora Riggan has gone to Winston-Salem to attend the gradu ation exercises at Salem College. She will return the latter part of this week accompanied by her sister. Miss Kath erine Riggan. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith left Wednesday for their summer home in Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. Greer Stutz of New York City are visiting the latter’s sister in Wilmington. They will re turn here in a few days to spend the j remainder of their vacation with I Mayor and Mrs. D. G. Stutz. j Garland Pierce has returned from a ten-day trip in the north. Mrs. J. W. Atkinson spent Satur- I day in Sanford. I Mrs. Henry M. Dingley, Jr., arriv ed Wednesday from New York to vis it her parents Dr. and Mrs. W. (7. Mudgett. Mr. and Mrs. Dingley ar rived in California from Tahiti last week, taking a plane to New York last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Buckley have returned from a two weeks’ vaca tion in the north They were accom panied by little Nelia Johnson, small daughter of Jack Johnson. Miss Lena Cameron and Miss Gus- sie Cameron spent last Saturday in Raleigh. Miss Laura M. Jenks, Miss C. Edith Titus and Miss J. J. Rutherford left Monday for New York state where they will spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Pethick and family left yesterday to spend the summer in Maine. Mr. and Mrs. Winters and family, who have occupied the Knowles cot tage during the winter, will leave Fri day for their home in the north. Mr. and Mrs. James Schwartz are expected to return Thursday from Alexandria where they have been vis iting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Swan, Jr. Mrs. Winnie Dodge is ill at her home on Ashe street. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Robinson have returned from a short trip north. They will remain here a short time to close their home for the summer. Miss Irene Roberts of Winston- Salem is a guest at The Woodworth. Miss Roberts is plaiming to make her borne here. Miss Margaret Burroughs and Miss Martha Burroughs of Sanford were guests of Misses Dorothy and Ruth Richardson a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. James Swett and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Betterley attend ed the graduaMon exercises at W. C. U. N. C. in Greensboro this week. Miss Mary Sw'eet was a member of the graduating class. Miss Mary Jane Woodward has gone to Washington, D. C., to spend the summer with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Clark. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Simons and Mrs. Burnett were at Myrtle Beach, S. C.. Monday and Tuesday. Miss Flora Sessoms of Raeford is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Sessoms at their apartment on North East Broad street. Mrs. W. E. McCord left Thursday for New York where she will spend the summer vacation. Mr. and Mrs. William Schroeder are occupying the McCord house on In diana avenue for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Squires were in Greensboro this week to attend the graduation exercises of the Senior Class at W. C. U. N. C., of which their daughter. Miss Alice Marie, was a member. Miss Mary, Lois and Susan Swett have arrived from W. C. U. N. C. in Greensboro to spend the summer at their home here. Miss Sara DuRant is attending the Bible School conference at Flora Mac donald College in Red Springs. Mrs. Ethel Haight of Raleigh was the week-end guest of Mrs. Esther McDaniels. Mrs. C. F. Smith has returned to her summer home in New Britain, Coim., after spending the winter in Southern Pines. . Mr.s. Millie Monls has closed the New England House for the summer and left a few days ago for the north. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Crain of Ports, mouth were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. N. W^. Crain at their home on May street. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olmsted and children of Camden, S. C., were guests of Mrs. Claude Hafer last week. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Skinner left Monday for the north. They were ac companied as far as Baltimore by Mrs. Shields Cameron. H. H. Beckwith of Boston spend a few days in Southern Pines last week. Mrs. J.vne Towne, who spent the past several months in Europe, arriv ed Saturday to spend some time here. Miss Eleanor Groves entertained at a dance at her home last Friday night. Miss Ruth Thompson was hostess at a dance at her home on Broad street last Thursday. Miss Eleanor Harloe entertained at a dance Monday evening. Miss Sylvia Pethick and Miss Eleanor Sparks were joint hostesses at a danoe for the younger set Sat urday evening.
