Friday, June 7, 1935. THE PILOT, Southern Pines and Aberdeen, North Carolina Page Seven Relief Org’anization I Changes Announced! New Work Projects Director to Have CharRe of All But Direct Relief Mrs. Thomas O'Berry i.s expected to continue a.s director of the State- Federal relief organization, but the work of this organization is to be re duced and the extra work assumed by a work projects director for the State. Former Mayor G. M. Coan of Winston-Salem wa.s appointed di. rector on Tuesday. He is expected to have charge of the work done in the state, handled so far by Mrs. O’Berry, but direct relief is to be continued by Mrs. O'Berry, as it is now understood. Mrs. O’Berry was in Washington last week and reported that she un derstood Relief Administrator Harry L. Hopkins and Governor Ehring- hause were in agreement as to North Carolina's contribution to relief, and that no trouble is expected by North Carolina in getting her share of the funds to be distributed. Mr. Hopkins has caused a new set. up in North Carolina, composed of eight districts, each with about a dozen counties, and with a central city as the district headquarters from which the work relief will be admin istered. Moore county is in District 5, with headquarters at Greensboro. Highway Chairman Capus M. Waynick has been advised unofficial ly that all of the highways and un derpass work in North Carolina is to be done with labor recruited 20 per cent from the relief rolls, excep tions to be approved by the head of the work progress organization. This, it is feared, will handicap the work and prevent utilizing labor that might otherwise bs on relief rolls. This work is expected to get under way soon after July 1. C.X.MEKOX stokf: kobbed Moore county officers were called to investigate a robbery which oc curred in Cameron Monday night when the store and market of Charlie Boaz was entered and thirty or forty dollars worth of cigarettes, tobacco and other articles stolen. The thieves first broke into the mill of J. A. Phil lips to get something to work with and then succeeded in opening the rear door of the Boaz store building. Everybody’s going to the Curb Market in Southern Pines on Satur day now. Gould.
