Hall of the Methodist church and the Rev. Charles A. Lawrence of the Presbyterian church doing the preach, ihgr. Services will be held each even. ing at 8 o'clock. The Sunday evening service will be in the Vass Methodist Church as that is the time for a reg ular service there, but beginning on Monday evening and continuing throughout the week the services will 1>e held in the tabernacle near the latlroad station. The Rev. John W. Crinkley of Hemp will fill the appointments of the Rev. C. A. Lawrence at the Cypress and Vass Presbyterian churches next Sunday morning as Mr. Lawrence is this week engaged in a series of meetings at Spies. The Vass Woman’s Club will meet »t 8 o’clock this Friday evening at the home of Mrs. G. W. Griffin with Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. W. H. Keith and Mrs. G. W. Brooks as hostess. The American Home department will have charge of the program, «nd Miss Flora McDonald, home agent, will be present. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor, Miss Florence Leslie, Miss Louise Leslie and Miss Marjorie Leslie enjoyed a trip to Pilot Mountain on Thursday of last week, and while there called on Mr. and Mrs. John B'^asley, one time residents of V'ass. Mr. and Mrs. \V. B. Graham and Albert Graiham spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Graham and family in Ruffin, S. C. Mrs. Kate Lawhon, 85, of Charlotte, is at the home of her niece, Mrs. W. D. Wilson, for a visit of a month or two. Mrs. Lawhon is a sister of the late E. D. Byrd who was the first person to build a home in what is now the town of Vass. and of the late Dave S. Byrd, father of Mrs. Wilson. She was accompanied to Vass on Wednesday by Mr. and Mis. Clyde Lawhon and children, who returned to Charlotte on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Greene of Wil mington were guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards from Wednesday until Friday of last week. After spending three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jeffreys and the Laubscher boys, Mr. and Mrs. George Laubscher left Saturday for their home in Kansas City. Lewis Furr of Shreveport, La., came Thursday to spend a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Furr. Linwood Furr and Miss Nellie Paul flf Raleigh were at the Furr home for the Fourth. Mrs. W. D. Wilson returned a few days ago from Washington, D. C., where she had been visiting relatives for about a month. Miss Jessie Brook.s of Wilson spsnt the week-end at home. Her mother and sister, Mrs. G. W. Brooks and Miss Eloise Brooks, motored back to Wilson with her Sunday. Miss Lois Buchanan of Broadway came Thursday to spend a few days with her sister, Mrs. A. D. McLauch. Ifn, of Route 2. Ernest Clayton went to Atlanta Friday to visit relatives. Miss Anna Edgerton, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. T. Frank Cameron, for several weeks, left last week to visit her brother in Little ton. Mrs. Francis Byrd and baby of Ramseur spent last week with Mrs. Byrd’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Byrd. Miss Hazel Britt of Laurinburg was the guest of Miss Eva Caddell several days last week. Alton Wheelock, Jr., of North Col lins, N. Y., who is visiting his broth er, a patient at Pine Crest Manor in Southern Pines, was the dinner guest of the Rev. and Mrs. C. A. Lawrence Sunday. Edgar Oldham returned to Polkton on Sunday after spending several day v.'ith his parents, Mr. and Mr3. R. L. Oldham. Mrs. Mary E. Edwards and Miss Jewell Edwards spent a part of last week with Mr. and Mrs. Seth W. Las siter at their home near Smithfield. Mrs. T. J. Smith has as her guest her grandmother, Mrs. Thomas, of Greensboro. D. C. McGill of Halifax spent the week-end with Mrs. McGill. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. McLean of Le. noir spent the Fourth with Mr. and Mrs. N. N. McLean and in the even ing the group enjoyed a picnic at the old McLean place in Harnett county. Misses Leamon and Raynor Crouse of Greensboro visited their parents from Thursday until Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Smith of Greens boro were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Caddell. Miss Katrina Beasley, who has been attending school in Asheville, came last week to visit her sister. Miss Mary Beasley. Billy Bob McGill celebrated his fourth birthday Monday afternoon by entertaining a number of his small friends at a party at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan H. McGill. Games played under the di rection of Miss Marian McMillan were enjoyed by the little folks, and then came refreshment time with a pretty birthday cake with four can dles as the center of attraction. Billy Bob received a number of gifts. His guests were Marilyn Wood, Evelyn and Lewis Laurence, Hugh McLean, Vivian McMillan, A. Mac Cameron and Duncan McGill, Jr. Miss Bessie Allen of Cary and R. H. Mobley of Dunn visited Misses Mary and Katrina Beasley Tuesday.
