West End Still
Leads in League
All Teams Swinging Into Action
After Many Postponments
Due to Work in Peaches
During the past week every team
in the league swung into action af
ter many postponements. Each team
played two games and each split
even, so that there has been no
change in the standing of the vari
ous teams.
Wednesday, August 14, at West
End, Aberdeen defeated West End.
The score of this game has not been
reported to the league secretary.
On the same day Pinehurst defeat
ed Southern Pines by the score of
8 to 6 in a loosely-played, free
hitting contest. Due to illness, in-
juries and other causes. Southern
Pines was minus the service of three
of its regular players, while Pine-
hurst also was without the service
of two of its outfielders.
Saturday, August 17, West End
defeated Aberdeen by the score of
7 to 4.
On the same day Southern Pines
defeated Pinehurst in an abreviated
game by the score of 1 to 0. In the
the first half of the fifth inning one
of Southern Pines’ players made a
clean two-bagger with one out. The
next man hit a slow grounder to
the Pinehurst pitcher, who had' plen
ty of time to trap the Southern Pines
man off 2nd. Instead, he threw to
first to restore the batter, while the
player on second tried for third. A
