Patterson. Mrs. Florence Thomas of Cornelius and Mrs. Katherine Shaw of Southern Pines have been guests of Mrs. Pat terson also. W. D. Mathews returned Sunday from a trip to Blowing Rock. Mrs. C. M. Gattis and little daughter, Julia Ann, of Raleigh are guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Corbett. Edgar Oldham of Polkton and two of his friends, Alton Ritter and Tom Lasiter, were guests of Edgar’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Oldham, last week-end. After spending several months at the home of her brother, J. M. Tyson, Mrs. Mamie Dion returned to Raleigh on Friday of last week. Mrs. A. M. Cameron and children, Miss Marian and A. Mac, are visit, ing relatives in Buie’s Creek for a few days. Hazel Jones of Hamlet called on friends in town Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mott and little daughter, Myra, and Mr. and Mrs. William P. Parker of near Raeford visited at the Gschwind home Sunday morning. Rev. D. N. Caviness of Roaring Gap spent Thursday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Me- Craney and they, with Junior and Billy Bob McGill, went to Aberdeen to see Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hemphill and baby. Miss Hazel Gaddy of Durham is visiting her cousin, Juanita Thomp son. , Mrs. Irene Byrd of Albemarle spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Griffin. , Miss Doris Thompson of Charles- ton, S. Miss Ola Parham, fwho recently came to North Carolina from Flor ida, is spending some time with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Tyson. Miss Parham came to Vass last week from near Fayetteville, where she has been visiting relatives. Philip Austin Wood was honored by the Vass Woman’s Club, of which his mother, Mrs. Ben H. Wood is a member, on Wednesday evening when a number of the clubwomen gather ed at his home with a shower ot dainty gifts for him. Utterly obli vious of the fact that he should be polite to the nice ladies, young Phil, with a chubby red fist on either side of his head, slept peacefully on, leav- ing it to his mother to admire the gifts and to express thanks in the way she thought best. W. M. Blue returned home from the Lee County Hospital last week and is well on the way to recovery from his recent severe attack of pleurisy.
