The members of Sanford chapter, Number 48, Order of Eastern Star were hostesses last Friday to the members of the chapters composing the sixth district, who assembled in annual meeting, with approximately 175 in attendance. Mrs. Katherine Wooley, of South ern Pines, district deputy, presided. The address of welcome was delivered by Miss Elva Bryan, worthy matron Sanford chapter, and response by Mrs. Cecil Butler, of Fort Bragg. All phases of degree worlt of the order were exemplified by the var ious chapters. This followed the ritualistic opening by the Sanford chapter. Other features of the pro. gram were addresses by Mrs. Joyce B. Finlator, of Winston.Salem, wor thy grand matron, J. L. Neely, of Hamlet, worthy grand patron, Mrs. Mary Weatherly, of Franltlinville, worthy grand secretary, George R. Bennett, superintendent of the Ma sonic and Eastern Star Home, Greensboro. The district adopted as its objec tive for the year, the secunng of funds for the erection of a chapel at the home. At 6 p. m. a supper was served in the dining room of the Masonic Temple. A musical program was ren dered by Mrs. M. J. McPhail, grand organist, Mrs. L. R. Sugg, Mrs. H. F. Maltepeace, Mrs. Bessie Buchan an, and Mrs. Raymond Gregson, so loists, of Sanford. An invitation from Long Leaf Pine Chapter, Number 186, to hold the 1936 meeting with them was accepted. Phillips, Pete Phillips, Misses Thur- la Cole, Katie Harrington, George Cole and Mrs. Loula Muse and Miss Mary Ferguson. W. A. Muse attended the funeral of L. D, Arnold, conducted from the C5okesbury church, near Lillington, Sunday afternoon. Mr. Arnold wa.s found dead in bed on Saturday morn ing at his home near Fuquay Springs, Route 1. His death was attributed to heart failure. Mr. Arnold was about 60 years of age and a man of sterling worth. He is survived by three children. Miss Arnold, a train, ed nurse at Lee County Hospital, Sanford: Ralph and Edison Arnold of Fuquay Springs, Route 1; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Brown of Lilling. ton and Mrs. W. R. Harrington of New York. Pharoah Bullard visited friends and relatives in Kenly and Wilson last week. Friends will regret to hear of the serious illness of Marvin Thomas of Georgia. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Misses Margaret and Mary Emma Thomas left Monday night for Co. lumbus, Ga., to be with their broth er, Marvin Thomas, who is critically ill in a hospital there.
