bugs ar? just as much the business
of Dr. Rawland W. Leiby as azala-
leas are his delight, says the Raleigh
News and Observer. Dr. Leiby is a
former resident of Aberdeen and a
frequent Sandhills visitor.
Dr. Leiby recen:;y celebrated the
20th anniversary of his coming to
North Carolina as assistant State
entomologist, a post he left Cornell
University in 1915 to accept. For ten
years he held down the job so well
that in 1925 he was made State en-
tcmologist, a post .he holds today.
Since he has been entomologist, his
office has been an important news
center on numerous occasions,
among them being during the Flor
ida fruit-fly quarantine in 1929, the
return of the 17-year locusts two
years ago and during the invasions
of the boll weevil in the cotton fields.
Rawland Leiby was born in Allen
town, Pa., in 1892, but after 20 years

The Kiwanis club of Aberdeen is

I cember 20th, for the benefit of its
