Brltton-Stone WeddlnR A wedding of interest to society in this state and Massachusetts was sol emnized last Saturday at noon, when Miss Elinor Stone became the bride f O. C. Britton, Jr., of Chatlotte. The c;remony vas performed at the home of the bride’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stone on Linganore place, Charlotte, and was attended only by members of the two families. The vows wer; spoken by the Rev. Luther Little, pastor of the First Bap tist church, in the drawing room, bef re an altar of ferns and palms. The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, was gowned in an imported costume of aquamarine blu?, with white fox collar and ox- blood acces.'^oiies. Her flowers were a shower of orchids. Mi.'is Ruth Stone attended her sister as maid of h nor, and was attired in a blue and white print, with a cor sage of gardenias. Jack Britton of Cameron, was his brother's b:st man. Following the ceremony, a beautifully appointed, informal breakfast was served, after which Mr. and Mrs. Brit ton left for Palm Beach, Fla., where they will spend two weeks. On thfit return they will be at home at r>00 Queens road. Myers Park, Chctrictte. Mrs. Britton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Iia Slone, former residents of Boston, Mass., and is one of Char- lott:'s favorites. She received her ed ucation at the Institute Matenon. Paris, France, and later was a stu dent at Duke University. Mr. Brit ton is the son of Mrs. O. C. Britton and the late Mr. Biitton of Cameron. He graduated from Duke University in 1935, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He is associated with the Royal Manufac turing company, with headquarters in Charlotte. The wedding was a quiet affair, owing to the recent death of the groom’s father. The fcllowing announcement was received by friends: "Born to Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Temple, a son, Paul David, weight 8 1-4 pounds. February 18." Mr. Temple was superintendent of school here for ssveral years, he and Mrs. Temple taught in the school for some five years. Circle No. 2 of the Presbyterian Woman's Auxiliary met with Miss Annie Boist on last Friday afternoon. Bible study by Miss Rachael Gilchrist was used as devotional. Topic for the atterncon was vfrica. "The March of Hours in Africa,” by Mrs. Martha B. Worth was uniquely presented by Mrs. L. B. McKeithen. Cong aled sal ad. with wafers and coffee was serv ed. The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met Sunday af- tern on in the church. In the absence of the presid:nt, Mrs. J. E. Snow, the vice president. Mrs. James McDonald, presided. The Rev. M. D. McNeill conducted a spiritual devotional. Re ports from the auxiliary secretary and treasurer, circle chairmen and cause secretaries were read. Owing to the resignation of the pre.:X^nt, due to her health, the following offi cers wiie elected; Presidsnt, Miss Ra chael Gilchrist, Vice-President, Mrs. M. D. McNeill. A call meeting of cir cle No. 2 f r election of circle offi cers resulted as follows: Chairman, Miss Thurla Cole; vice chairman. Mrs. Jewell H mphill; secretary and treas- uter. Miss Annie Borst. Mrs. J. l!. Snow went to Greens boro Friday afternoon and was ac companied home by Miss Margaret McLean, student at N. C. C. W. who spent the week-end with her. Lowry and the entire school faculty- -except Miss Ilentz. who had recently undergona an appendicitis operation- attended the Teachers meeting in Carthage last Friday afternoon. Prof. Lowry was elected vie; president f the County Association. Mesdames Loula Muse and Jeweii Hemphill ,after spending ten days with Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Muse of Hen derson, returned home Wjdnesday. While away, Mrs. Hemphill was a pa- I tient in Maria Parham hospital for two days, receiving a blood transfu sion. which has proven very benefi cial.
