CHURCH NOTES Have Narrow Escape in Gainesville Tornado Church Falls in as Pastor’s Fam ily is SeekinK Refuge in Basement The cyclone which devastated the cities of Gainesville, Ga., and Tupelo, Ga., early this week was brought home to two families in Aberdeen, the Rsv. E. L. Barbers and the Angus McDon alds. Mr. Barber’s brother-in-law', the Rev. Marshall Dendy is pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville .He was in his home near the church when he heard the cy clone approaching. They had no sooner slammed the door leading to the basement behind them when the blow struck in all its force, and they h;ard the edifice tumbling down abave them. Though the church was almost completely destroyed, they were unharmed, but the house which they had fled in quest of shelter was destroyed, leaving th:m homeless. Mr. Barber had no word of them for two days after the stonn due to impair ment of communications facilities and was greatly relieved to hear of their safety on Wednesday. Mr. Barber had planned to occupy the Gainesville pulpit during his brother’s vacation period this summer.
