At Plnehurst Tonight (Friday) marks the clos ing of the Pinehurst Theatre for the season and for Its closing attraction it is offering the famous English ac tress, Madeline Carroll, supported by George Brent !n an adaptation ot Arthur Somers Roche’s well known Collier's Magazine story, "The Case Against Mrs. Ames.” The Motion Picture Daily Pacific Coast correspondent has the follow ing to say about this production:— ‘‘Skillfulljr blending dramatic, roman tic comedy elements that have quick appeal, this newest Walter Wanger production *ooms as absorbing enter tainment for class and mass audi ences. A closely knit story balancing melodramatic incident with Intrigumg love interest rigid suspense and laugh provoking comedy makes this an im- ptessive film for Madeline Carroll. It likewise allows George Brent to pre sent a convincing, highly polished performance." At Southern Pines Motion picture fans who breathless ly followed Ronald Colman in “Beau- Gest” and who adored Claudette Col bert in “It Happened One Night,” have a groat treat in store for them in “Under Two Flags,” playing a re turn engagement at the Southern Pines Theatre. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. May 11, 12, 13 with a Tuesday matinee. It is the picture which brings these two titans of the screen together in roles that surpass even the moat magnificent of their past triumphs. Miss Colbert plays the part of "Cigarette.” in this adapta tion of Guida's immottal story of the French Foreign Legion. A love ly flirt, she toys with the affections of Victor McLaglen, Legionnaire Ma jor, until she meets Colman, a mem ber of the ranks. She impulsively Icses her heart to him. The drama gains in power and intensity with the appearance of Rosalind Russell, fragile English beauty. Before he is sent out to the desert to help stem the aiab revolt, Colman has declared his love for her. Hemmed in by hos tile forces, McLaglen vengefully at tempts to destroy Cclman, whom he believes stands between himself and Miss Colbert. But Colman saves his force by a daring ruse, and magnifi cent charge of the Legion, led by Miss Colbert results in the defeat of tr.f Arab force.s. H, G, Wells’ amazing forecast of the future, "Things To Come." will be the attraction at S uthern Pines Thursday Friday, Saturday, May 14, 15. 16, with a Saturday matinee. The widely-discussed film which was pro duced by Alexander Korda, in our world in the next century and its magnitude challenges anything ever attempted in Hollywood. Opering in the year 1940, “Thing.'! to Come" de scribes th, breakdown of our present civilization thr ugh the ne.xt war and a return to primitive living. Out of this hopeless state grows a marvel lous new subterranean woild a sane, piactical and very livable Utopia. Ac cording to Mr, Wells, the life of the 21st Century will be lived under ground almost entirely. The cities will be built in the sides cf mountains, I lighted by artificial sunlight and ven tilated by conditioned air. The houses will be glass, but windowless, furn ishings and clothing will reach a high point of beauty and simplicity. The two-hour day will be a fact and humans will be propelled to the moon from a giant space gun. With its cast cf 20.000, "Things to Come’’ is a Lon don film released through United Ar tists. .S tWUOHT I\ SW.VMI* .\F"TF:k Bl'IKiL.XKY IN .\BERDEF:N TENNIS RACQUET and two balls found in the Municipal park on Ap ril 27th Owner may have same by calling at the Mid-South grill and paying for this ad. Eli Parson, Paul Williams and James Jordan, colored boys of Alex andria. Va., were caught in a swamp near Vass Tuesday morning and are being held on charges of breaking and entering Wimberly's store in Aber deen cn Monday night and stealing shoes, shirts and other articles of clothing. County officers chanced to be in Aberdeen Monday night and were notified of the robbery and given a tip that the thieves were probably on a freight train there. They inves tigated and fcund some boys on the train who told them of seeing three others run. A shirt and other goods were found along the tracks, so offi cers notified authorities in Sanford to search the train when it reached there. Four pairs of shoes were found.
