Miss Jacksie Muse made and is wearing a beautiful print dress, made from material bought by her grand mother, the late Mrs. McFadyen, from the store of the late Howard J. Muse of Carthage, in 1916. Mrs. Vina Sherman of Danbury, Conn., returned to her home Saturday after spending the winter here. Mr. and Mrs. George Smith left Wednesday for there home in Water town, Conn. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Swan and daughter, Mrs. James Gavin and children of White Plains, N. Y„ re turned to their home Saturday after spending the winter here. Miss Sarah Atkinson of W, C. U. N. Mrs. Carson Palmer and Ml.ss Elizabeth Adams won the two prizes and other ladies present received the cooked focd There will be a district meeting lOf Vass Juniors Tender Banquet to Seniors Hotel Charmella Colorful Scene of Festivities, With Faculty In On the Fun West End Has Busy Commencement Week The Junior class of Vass-Lakeview High Schcol entertained the members of the senior class, the high school faculty and the county superintend ent at a banquet at Hotel Charmella in Vass last Saturday evening. The main dining room was beautifully dec orated in Japanese sjyle, introducing Japanese lanterns, fans and parasols, with the senior colors of pink and white emphasized in the flowers, can dles and other table decorations. A three-course dinner was served. Jesse Thomas, president of the junior class, presided as toastmas ter and the following toasts were given: to the seniors, Connor Cole; to the juniors, Gilbert Bailey; to the fac ulty, Julian Smith; to the students, W. E. Gladstone; to the county sup erintendent, Edith Matthews. Other interesting numbers were two quar tets, “Goody, Goody,’ ’and Please Be lieve Me,” sung by Alma Crouse, Gladys Cox, Grace Goodman and Re becca Gardner; humorous reading, "The Trouble With Rastus,” by Viola Briggs; solo, ‘'Freckles,” by Connor Cole, and a talk by the superintend ent, A, M. Calhoun. Group singing brought the program to a close. Dr. Bedinger, President of Flora Macdonald College, To Deliver Baccalaureate Commencement exercises for West End Schcol began Friday evening. May 1, in the High School Auditor ium.The Junior Music pupils under the direction of Mrs. S. L. McDuffie gave a unique program in costume, and were assisted by several violin pupils. Twenty-four pupils gave very able performances. On Friday evening. May 8, at 8:00 o’clock, the school play, “Cool I Knights,” will be given under the ■ direction of Miss Helen Clark. On Sunday morning, May 10, at 11:00 ! o’clock Dr. Henry C, Bedinger, presi- i dent of Flora Macdonald College, will ’ deliver the baccalaureate sermon. Monday evening. May 11, at 8:00 [ o’clock the Seventh grade graduation exercises and High School music re- jCital will be held. On Tuesday even- I ing the Class Day exercises of the * Senior Class will be given, and on I Wednesday morning the declamation and recitation contest will be held. The final event of the commence ment will be the graduating exfrcisea Wednesday evening at 8:00 o’clock. The graduating address will be de livered by Dr. George Howard, pro fessor of education at the University of North Carolina.
