PINEHURST
On Monday afternoon Saint An
thony’s Troop Number 1 went on Its
first official hike of the summer
months. Led by the scoutmaster the
boys walked to Thagard’s pond, a
round trip of 17 miles. This hike
served a two-fold purpose. All the
boys passed their requirement of a
14-mlle hike and several passed such
requirements as cooking and fire-
making. When the troop arrived at
the pond Charles Phillips set to work
and soon had a most delightful "Hun
ters Stew” that tasted better than
even Mother could make.
At the last troop meeting two con
tests got under way, one for profi
ciency In plaster of parls work with
the reward a scout watch, and the
other a contest In woodcraft with a
Scout knife as the coveted prize.
These awards will be made at the
Court of Honor to be held Monday,
June 22, at Pinehurst,
