Buying of School Books
Will Start Next Week
state Department Gets Unde*
Way with Purchases Aug.
12th at Carthafje
' The County Board of Education is
cooperating with th? State in a pro-
;^ram that will make it possible for
pupils to rent all of their basal and
supplementary books, announces H.
Lee Thomas, county superintendent
of schools. This will eliminate the
former practice of renting each book
separately.
Under this new plan the basal
books and supplementary readers will
be rented for a aUp'ilated fee, which
shall be not more than one-third the
retail price of the books used by the
pupils. Each pupil must rent all of
his booljs or buy all books. It will not
be possible to rent part of the books
and buy the remainder.
In order to carry out the program,
pupils will be given an opportunity
to sell the books they now own.
From one-fourth to one half the re
tail price of each book will be al
lowed on usable copies. There will be
no cash payments. Pupils will re
ceive credit slips that can be used
as part payment of the rental fee at
the opening of school.
The following books will be pur
chased :
1. All elementary books that are
now being used In the county, except
Drawing, Writing, and Spelling.
2. A-1 high school books now be
ing used In the county except Eng
lish Literature, English Composition,
and French. (New books In these
subjects have recently been adopted.)
A representative will be ntatloned
