THE PILOT, Southern Pines and Aberdeen, NV)rth Carolina Page Seven The Week in Vass Around eighty of the Bynum fam ily gathered at Lakeview on Wednes day of last week for their third an nual reunion and the occasion prov ed a most enjoyable one. A bounte ous dinner was spread picnic style at 1.00 o’clock and following the in vocation by T. R. Moffitt of Sanford, the feasting began. After brief talks by several of the men, officers for the coming year were elected as follows: J. T. Bynum of Hope Mills, succeeding W. H. Keith of Vass, as chairman and Mrs. S. R. Smith of Vass, succeeding Miss Eliz abeth Bynum of Hope Mills, as sec- retary-treasurer. The group decided to hold the next reunion at Lakeview on the second Sunday in August 1937. All of the seven surviving daugh ters of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bynum were present except Mrs. Minnie By num Patterson of Philadelphia, Miss. Honoring Mrs. Clyde P. McMillan, a bride of the summer, Miss Kath arine Graham and Mrs. C. L. Tyson entertained at a lovely shower at the home of Miss Graham on Friday eve ning. Attractive arrangements of summer flowers added to the charm of the living-room where the guests were received. Progressive alphabet was played and high score was made by Mrs. D. A. Smith and Mrs. McMillan. Miss Louise Leslie and Mrs. Ollie Semmle- mann were winners in a home con- tet't. Following the serving of delicious refreshments, various ones were call ed on to perform certain stunts. Mrs. McMillan was asked to go into an ad joining room and gather in the clothes. She found numerous artic les hanging on a line and a clothes basket containing other lovely gifts, all of which constituted the shower. Guests, in addition to the honoree, were Mrs. D. A. Smith, Mrs. N. N. Mclean. Mrs. P. A. Wilson of Moores- ville, Mrs. Ollie Semmlemann of San Antonia, Texas, Mrs. W'. E. Glad stone, Mrs. Wilbur Beasley, Mrs. Eth el Kirby, Miss Louise Leslie, Miss Marjorie Leslie, Miss Agnes Smith, Miss Jessie Brooks and Miss Myrtle McMillan. The class of 1932 of Vass-Lakeview high school met in reunion at Lake view on Friday night with six of the twenty members in attendance. Af ter five chickens had been fried it was found that the class had lost none of its skill so far as eating was concerned, and the “Do you remem ber tJie time . . . . ?” conversation brought back happy memories. Those attending were Misses Anna Laub- scher, Elizabeth Keith and Eva Doss, Edwin Causey, Atlas Eastwood and Cortis Thomas, and one guest. Miss Evelyn Sellars of Addor. The program committee for the religious Emphfisis Week for Young People met on Friday evening at the home of the chairman, Mrs. S. R. Smith, with the advisors. Rev. and Mrs. L. M. Hall, in attendance, and programs were mapped out for Mon day, Tuesday, W'ednesday and Thurs day evenings of next week, the ser vices to be held in the Vass Meth odist church. Monday night will be “College Night", at which time college young people will discuss life in the higher institutions of learning and this will be followed by a talk on “What the Community Has a Right to Expect of its College Young People.” “Christian Citizenship” was chos en as the theme of the Tuesday night service and this will be pre.sent- ed from the viewpoint of young peo ple. Mr. Hall and Rev. Charles Beatty will have charge of the Thurs- I day evening program which will be I in the form of a consecration service. Mias Marion Cameron is chairman of the music committee and special I nuisic will feature each program. F’ollowing the services which will be held at 8:00 o’clock each evening, a shoit recreation period will be held on the lawn, the weather permitting. While these services are to be car ried out for the most part by leading young people of the community, they are not solely for the young people and it is hoped that young, middle- aged and old will attend. After a clever little stunt, partners [ were found for a "husbands” contest and Mrs. Bertie L. Matthews and Mrs. S. R. Smith were the winners. Mrs. ' F. W. Taylor and Mrs. G. W. Brooks were holders of high score in progres sive anagrams which followed. Dainty prizes were awarded the winners. Those enjoying the delightful par ty were Mrs. Buice, Mrs. Byrd, Mrs. G. W. Mr. and Mrs. Redga Thomas and small son of Cameron route were Sunday guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Oldham. Mrs. W'. C.
