D. Thomas on Route 1, Vass. The following were elected for the coming year; President, Mrs. J. B. Parker; vice-president. M. D. McNEILL Hundreds Gather For Miss Elsie Mae Hewitt became the bride of Francis VV. Haskell on Fri day afternoon, September 4th, at the Eden Baptist Church in Salisbury Cove. Maine, the Rev. Ellsworth M. Smith, of Newton, Mass. performing the ceremony. The bride, formerly of Southern Pines is a daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Hewitt, and for the past six years as a resident of Salisbury Cove has been employed at the office of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. at Bar Harbor- Mr, Haskell is a member of the teaching staff of the public schools. The church was pret tily decorated with fall flowers. The bride wore a beautiful gown of white satin with a flowing veil and carried a bridal bouquet Her maid of honor. Miss Charlotte Smith, wore yellow or- last Sunday for the annual home coming, and the day was one of hap py association of friends, many of whom seldom meet except at these get-togethers at the beloved old church. The regular morning schedule was I carried out, Sunday School, and a sermon by the pastor, the Rev. Wil liam A. Brown of Olivia, at the 11:&0 o’clock hour. At 3:00 o’clock the Rev. M. D. Me. Neill of Cameron, for many years pastor of the church, preached on “Home—the Family, the Church and the Heavenly.” Several selections by “The Circuit Rider," a sound mo tion picture, will be presented in the Vass Methodist church at 8:00 o’clock on Saturday evening of this week, and a most cordial invitation to attend is extended to the people of the community. The picture tells in a graphic way of the hospital work carried on by the Methodist church, and is both educational and interesting. There will be no admission charge, but an offering will be received for the “Golden Cross work. The Vas.s Woman’s Club met on Friday evening at the home of Mrs. G. W. Brooks, at which time an in teresting program was given under the direction of Mrs. Brooks who is chairman of the American Home De. partment. Mrs. W. E. Gladstone gave two of Guest’s poems, “Folks” and "Little Master Mischievous’’, and Mrs. Ben Wood read a poem entitled “Her and Me”. “What is Home” by Mrs. C. J. Temple was the final num ber In the absence of both the pres ident and the vice-president. Mrs. H. A. Borst presided over the meeting. A delightful social hour was enjoy ed and the club was delighted to have present a former member, Mrs. Will iam P. Parker of Raeford, and Mrs. Ed Gschwind of Kansas City. The hostesses, Mrs- Brooks, Mrs. W. H. Keith, Mrs. G- W. Griffin and Mrs. Wood, served refreshments. Mr- and Mrs. Howard Ellis of Ram- seur have announced the birth of twin sons on Sept. 9 in an Asheboro hospital- Duain Cameron Ellis tips the scales at four and three-quarters and his big brother, Wayne Camp bell Ellis, weighs five and one-half pounds. Mrs. Ellis was formerly Miss Lena Cameron of Vass. D. A. Cameron, Misses Agnes and I guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith. Vick Keith, "Pete" McRae and Her- man Parker made a trip to Wash ington, D. C. during last week-end- Mrs. Bryce Griffin and baby daugh ter, Carolyn Elaine, of Sanford are visiting Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Griffin. Mrs- Henry Crabtree and children of Rockingham visited Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Crabtree the first of the week. Mrs. Billy Thomas, Mrs. John Wrenn and baby and Clyde Thomas of Siler City atjtended the home coming at Cypress Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Edd Gschwind, Mrs. I W. P. Parker, Tommy Gschwind and Eugene Hicks called on J. L. Hicks in Raleigh on Monday and visited points of interest in the capital. Plans Win Be Perfected at Meet- injf of Women on Sep tember 19th On Saturday, September 19th, at 3:00 p. m. the second county-wide meeting of women interested in the maternity situation in Moore county will be held in the office of Miss Flora McDonald in the court house in Carthage. Miss Margaret McQueen, the new full-time welfare nurse who began work on July 1st, will discuss the es tablishment of permanent monthly maternity clinics in six different places in the county. Permanent com mittees and health leaders from ev ery section of the county will be list ed with Miss McQueen to help with the work. , It is earnestly desired that every part of the county shall be represent, ed at this meeting and that every woman’s organization in the county lend its interest and cooperation In this worthwhile bit of social service. “No expectant mother in Moore county approaching the ordeal of childbirth without proper pre-natal care and the assurance of adequate medical supervision during and after confinement, both for herself and her newborn Infant” is the maternity center’s slogan for this year, E. The Cameron Woman’s Club met Thursday afternoon at the clubroom for the purpose of reorganizing for the winter months. Plans were made for the coming season and two con tests were enjoyed, the winners being Mrs. Graham Bullock and Miss Ra chel Gilchrist.
