men and women stood around old I

day afternoon, some there as pros
pective buyers, others as folks whose
hearts were just so sort of linked up
with the old building that they had
to be near it in its last great hour.
Johnson’s Grove Church was erect-,
*d nearly 50 years ago to meet the |
needs of the growing Vass commun
ity, there being no church in easy
walking distance and only two “bug-
by horses” around. Billy Johnson do
nated the land, but did not live to j
see the completion of the building,
which was located at the site a mile ;
■from the village in order that it'
tniight be easily accessible to the
people ‘‘over the creek”, the Gra-
ftams, the Camerons, the Thompsons,
the Matthews, the Keiths, the Mc-
Fadyens, the Autreys, the McCaL
lums and others as well as the vil
lagers.
