Billy Clegg of Mars Hill spent Sun day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Clegg. Mrs. Joe Allen has returned from Lilesville wliere she was called by the illness of her father. Dr. and Mrs. J. I. Neal and daught. er Rebecca of Southern Pines spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George D. Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Stutts and children of Roanoke, Va., are visit ing Mr. and Mrs. C. M, Stutts. Miss Catherine Blue, a member of the Durham schools faculty, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and ^ Mrs. Alonzo Blue. Miss Flora McQueen and little Bobbie McQueen spent the week-end in Dunn. Air. and Mrs. J. L. McGraw and Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Miller spent Sun day in Rock Hill, S. C. The Rev. and Mrs. E. P. Billups and son Edgar of Kernersville sptut a few days with Misses Cornie and Janie McLeod. Miss Emma Muse Burns of Greens boro College spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. R. L. Burns. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Carter of Win ston-Salem spent Sunday with Mrs. N. J. Muse. Mrs. Bill Clark has returned after a week’s visit in Danville, Va. Mrs. Richard Humphrey and dau. ghters, Mildred Baker and Ruth of Lumberton spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDonald. Mrs. C. G. Spencer entertained her contract club on Thursday. Mrs. J. V. D. Baker entertained at bridge on Wednesday evening at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. Symington. Contract was played at two tables, Mrs. E. H. Morton mak ing high score and Miss Catherine Shields low. Mrs. Bob Cagle entertained her two contract clubs and a few friends on Friday evening. Four tables were in play. High score club prizes went to Mrs. J. L. McGraw and Miss Judith Wainer, and guest prize to Mrs. E. S. Adams. Miss Cameron Weds at Home of Parents Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bruce Cameron is Bride of David Gillis RODERIC K BKY.\N FOUND DE.\D IN C.VKTH.VGE HOiVIE Funeral services were held on Wed nesday afternoon from the Carthage Methodist Church for Roderick Bry an. The Rev. E. C. Durham officiated, assisted by the Rev. W. S. Golden. Interment was in Cross Hill Ceme tery. Mr. Bryan was found dead in his room on Tuesday morning about 7:30 o’clock. He had been in his usual state of health before retiring, and death was a great shock to his fam ily- He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Bryan and one sister. Miss Cath erine Bryan of Carthage. COl’NTV-WIDE TEAC HERS’ MEETINCJ HELD IN C.\RTH.VC}E A county-wide teachers’ meeting was held in Carthage on Monday af ternoon with good attendance. The general topic was Language Arts. On the program, which was under the direction of R. F. Lowry of the Cam eron High School, were Miss Jean Mclver of Carthage, E. C. Brady of Hemp, Miss Neolia McCrummen, and Miss Lois Buchanan of Vass and Mr. Snipes of Cameron. TOWNSEND C’Ll’B TO MEET MOND.AY IN SCOUT H.VLL The Townsend Club will hold its regular weekly meeting on Monday night in the Boy Scout Hall at 7:30 o’clock. Miss Mary Elizabeth Cameron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bruce Cameron, and David Gillis, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gillis of Manley were united in marriage last Friday mora- ing, at 9:00 o’clock in a ceremony of beauty and dignity at the home of the bride’s parents, with the Rev. C. I. Calcote, pastor of the Manley Presby terian Church, officiating in the presence of members of the families of the contracting parties and a few intimate friends. Pine, potted plants and colorful fall flowers were used to form a background for the ceremony, and burning at each side were white tap ers on tall white standards. Mrs. C. I. Calcote played the nup tial music. “At Dawning,” “Melody of Love,” bridal chorus from "Loh engrin” and Mendelssohn’s wedding march were used. The bride was given in marriage by her father, and the impressive ring ceremony was used. She was dressed in navy blue crepe and wore a cor. sage of pink rosebuds. Soon after the ceremony the couple left for a motor trip of unannounced destination. Mrs. Gillis was graduated from the Southern Pines High School with the class of 1936. During her four years in high school she was active in ath letics and was a member of the Glee Club, the Lyric Club and the Trio. Mr. Gillis holds a position with the Carolina Power and Light Company in Southern Pines. They will make their home in Manley. Mr. and Mrs. Gifford Hawley, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cornwell and Miss Vivian Sherman arrived in Pinebluff Thursday after spending the summer in Danbury, Conn. Miss M. Diehl of Fort Erie, Cana da is a guest of Miss Harriet Ames. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bragur of Liberty, N. Y., are guests at the Lin- wood.
