NEEDS IS TO GET RID OF “RALEIGH RING” Election of Grissom Would Re* store Self Respect and Dig nity of the State HOEY PLUTOCRATS’ MAN The Democratic candidate for gov ernor was nominated by receiving about 100,000 absentee ballots in ad dition to using the force of forcing all present office holders and agents i ^^crning Myrna Loy, for the “ring” to vote for him. ‘ Pn One man in Wake County who stuf fed the ballot box for him is now serving a jail term in Wake County. How many more ought to be in jail is hard to estimate. There is nothing that would help this State more than to get rid of the ‘‘Raleigh ring,” There is nothing that would help the Democratic party as much as to get rid of Hoey and elect Grissom as Governor of the State. It would be a wholesome change. It would help re store the self respect and dignity of the State as a whole. Every honest Democrat admits we need a change. We need to destroy plutocratic government in this State and establish again a State Govern- t ment run by those who support it by taxes. Hoey is the agent of the plutocrats and is himself admitted to be a lobbyist. The majority of the taxpayers in North Carolina don’t want Hoey. We hope they will have backbone enough to vote for Gilliam Grissom for Governor. • Grissom for Governor Committee. tt ( Omplf:te new line of t’HE\ R01J':TS REFOKTEU PINEBLl'FF Pinehfuff Raptist Church Rev. Tom Black of the Pinehurst Gar age, Chevrolet dealers, today con firmed reports that Chevrolet would shortly climax its 25 years of man ufacture by introducing a complete new line of cars embodying new beau ty, style, safety, durability, and above all, performance capabilities. Mr. Black cited official notice from Chevrolet headquarters in Detroit, confirming the report that the new car would be valve-in-head six, the type on which Chevrolet has concen trated with such conspicuous suc cess. “More than 12,000,000 Chevrolets have been produced in the company's quarter-century of operation,” he pointed out. “Of the number nearly 7,000,000 are still in active service. 1,125,000 of the 1936 Models have been sold this year to date. Accord ing to word from Detroit, the forth coming models, while new from bum per to bumper, will adhere closely to engineering principles which have helped Chevrolet to lead the entire industry in sales seven years out of the last 10. The “balanced” performance of the power plant in the 1936 models is credited with a large share of the spectacular success which that pro duct has enjoyed, Mr. Black asserted. “Our 1936 owners,” he said, “report not only ample power for every pos sible requirement, but also durabil ity, and oil and gasoline economy even after many thousands of miles. We have it on good authority from Detroit that the 1937 engine will rate still higher in all of these impor tant respects.” entertainment “natural” la “Libeled Lady,” the attraction at the Southern Pines Theatre Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday, October 19, I 20, 21, with a Tuesday matinee, with a truly all-star combination in Jean j Harlow, William Powell, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy in the leading roles. Following the “cheating cheaters” premise, the story ia briskly fresh, sparkling with fun in dialogue and sit- uations and elaborately mounted. The story concerns Spencer Tracy, an ed itor, w'ho gets into hot water when he prints a wild scandal yarn con- j a socialite. He | engages William Powell, a libel suit quasher, to boil down the legal men ace, meanwhile marrying him to Jean Harlow, his girl. The suave Powell, in dealing with Walter Connelly, Miss’ Loy’s father, plays upon that gentle man s fishing phobia, thereby estab lishing himself in the good graces of the family. Comedy suspense gives the story a unique and punchy cli max, the complications of the situa tion being explained away by a hil- arious, action-laden sequence. “Libel ed Lady’ ‘is a laugh-fest for class- mass audiences. Men ? Never let them know you love them—keep laughing at them and they can’t hurt you| While it lasts swell I But no tears when its ended) j That’s what four lonesome, lovely ladies say in “Ladies In Love.” But what they do, makes the picture that will be shown Thursday and Friday. October 22, 23, with a Thursday mat inee. one of the screen’s most fasci nating entertainments. With the most brilliant and excit ing combination of feminine person* alities over to appear in one picture Janet Gaynor, Loretta Young, Con stance Bennett and Simone Simon, supported by Don Ameche. Paul Lu cas. Tyrone Power. Jr., and Alan i Mowbrey, “Ladies In Love” tells a brilliantly unusual story, with each of the four feminine players thrilling you In her own way. Of the fo\ir lovely ladies, one gam bles for love and loses, one gambles and wins, one asks for love and gets it. love asks for the fourth too late, and these four famous feminin? screen favorites introduce four excit" ing new techniques for romance which 1 promises to be one of the year’s out standing triumphs. With a “what-ho” and a “cherio” Jeeves. P. G. Wodehouse’s hilarious “Gentlemen’s gent” who knows all about women, fiction’s funniest char acter, com^s to the screen for the first time in "Thank You Jeeves,” on Saturday, October 24th, with a mat inee at 3:00. Droll Arthur Treacher plays the poker-faced valet with Virginia Field, the “lady in distress” and David Niven the blundering but ter-fingered Bertie Wooster. A ’typi cal Wodehouse tale, made funnier than ever by its transition to the screen, “Thank You Jeeves” is one of the most riotious of Jeeves’ ad ventures in extricating the inane Ber- tie from a peck of trouble and help ing him win the lady of his heart.
