No admission is charged to these annual shows, and no collections are taken. The public is cordially invited to attend, and all veterans arc urged to be there and to help out with the fun. NURSES ASLEEP WHEN FIRE DISCOVERED AT LENOX Nurses cf the Moore County Hos pital, asleep in the Lenox Cottage in Pinehurst, had to move quickly last Friday noon when fire was discov ered in the roof structure of the building, but were successful in sav ing themselves and their possessiods. The cottage, used as a nurses’ home, was badly damaged^ the Tames get ting considerable headway .before discovery. Nurses of the night staff w’ere asleep on the upper floors. I Lawrence Tibbett’s new product- I Ion, ‘‘Under Your Spell,” will be the opening attraction of the season at ‘ the Pinehurst Theatre on Monday, November 9th, at 3.00 and 8:20 p. I m. “Under Your Spell” is a fast mov- ' ing, colorful and interesting story, j radically different from anything in which Tibbett previously has appear- 1 ed. The producers have provided the noted baritone with a preponder ance cf modern songs, and have caused a comedy vehicle to be writ ten with important parts for the ac complished funsters, Gregory Rat- i off and the inevitable butler, Arthur ! Treacher, and for the lovers of real music there is Tibbett’s brilliant ren- I diticn of a scene from Gounod’s i "Faust" wherein he plays Mephist- opholes. “Mr. Cinderella,” the attraction at Pinehurst Wednesday, Nov. 11th, matinee and night, marks the pro ducing cinema debut of Hal E. Roach into the realm of sophist icated comedy, Holloywood pro claims this full-length Hal Roach M-G-M feature the most elaborate and outstanding production offered I by his studio in more than 20 years i of continuous operation. The mod- 1 ernized, magic Cinderella tale from the intriguing masculine side is un- j reeled by the most important cast j of players ever assembled by the I Roach Studios. Jean Arthur’s captivating charm, so much in evidence as ‘‘Mr. Deeds” enamorata and as the “Ex-Mrs. Bradford.” will sparkle anew at the Pinehurst Theatre Friday November 1st, matinee and night, when she lit- i erally “goes to town” with Joel Mc- Rea in “Adventure In Manhattan.” Jean and Joel, both at the peak of their careers, promise one of the mcst engaging screen teams since the Gable-Colbert rumpus that hap pened one night. \ \i h At Southern Pines The Southern Pines Theatre pre sents that screen adaptation of the famous “Dodsworth,” as its attract ion for Monday, Tuesday and Wed- I nesday, Nov. 9-10-11 with a Tuesday j matinee. A splendid cast consisting of Walter Huston, who also was the I star of the stage play, Ruth Chat- i terton, who dees the finest work of her career, Mary Astor, Paul Lukas ; and David Niven, leaves nothing to ■ be desired. A quotation from Rob- I ert Garland^ the famous New York j critic, speaks volumes^ and here it j is. “Ever since I have been writing j about talking pictures I’ve been long- I ing to use the word ‘magnificent.’ I But until yesterday it was to no i avail. Now, however, ‘Dodsworth’ ! has come into the Rivoli and I can let the delectable designation go.” A triple threat to empty seats is the contribution to the screen grid iron, “The Pigskin Parade,” the at traction for Thursday c,nd Friday, Nov. 12 and 13, with a Thursday matinee. With an aerial attack of pleasing music, a solid line of laughs and a fast-cracking comedy back- field. Director David Butler has built a foot ball picture sure to be formidable for a place on the 1936 All American boxoffice. “Our Relations,” suggested by W. W. Jacobs’ internationally-known story, “The Money Box,” gives Lau rel and Hardy their greatest oppor tunity to exploit their specialized screen genius which has so highly en tertained the world for the past ten years. The new picture is the at traction at Southern Pines Saturday, Nov. 14th, with a matinee at 3:00. ffll|urrh^a At the Village Chapel in Pinehurst on Sunday the Rev. Milton A.
