THE PILOT, Southern Pines and Aberdeen, North Carolina Page Thre« Local Officers Invited To Training School Institute of Government at Chapel Hill Provides Course on Law Enforcement The police, sheriff and deputies of Moore county have been invited to send representatives to the ten-day training school which the Institute of Government will hold for officers in Chapel Hill beginning January 5. This is the first 10-day Police School held in the state and will have one of the strongest instructional staffs of any school in the cotmtry. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is supplying six instructors from the staff of the National Police Academy headey by Director Rugh H. Clegg. And the “G-Men" will be supplement ed as to local phases by officials of the State Highway Patrol, experienc ed North Carolina officers, and the Institute of Government staff. The 10-day f^tate-wide school is part of the Institute's expanded sys tem of state, district and local police schools. The training program is de signed not only to aid those attend ing in the performance of their duties but to train them to act as instruc tors within their own deparments- In order that as many depart ments as possible may benefit by the training, the attendance has been lim ited to from from one to three I'ep- resentatives from a department, de pending upon its size. And there will be no registration fee or other charge ' except for board and room while in ! Chapel Hill. { The training program, which was j not framed until after extensive' consultation with local departments ' as to specific problems and needs, will cover virtually all important phases of law enforcement work in North ! During her stay in Southern Pines I Miss Tuttle, in addition to instruct ing at The Ark, painted the portraits of a number of local children. Aftet leaving here she taught and painted I for some time at Chapel Hill, but re cently became director of the Char lotte School of Fine Arts at the Mint Museum. Mr. Steadman is the son of Mrs. Ethel M. Steadman and the ' iate Col. Charles A. Steadman of Boston. Mass.
