Mrs. Andrew Hemphill, Jr., and small son have been visiting relatives in Vass and Cameron while Mr. Hem phill has been sent to the Progres sive Store in Troy to relieve a clerk. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Norris and son Kelsey spent last Saturday in Greens boro visiting friends. Mrs. David Knight, Sr., is some what improved following an illness of two weeks. Charlie Thomas and Guy Thomas attended the funeral of their brother. Sib Thomas at Pleasant Hill Metho dist Church, near Candor S in- day. Mr. Thomas died in New Yurk City following a long illness. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Melvin, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Pleasants, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Farrell and a number of others from Aberdeen also attended this funeral. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Spooner of Clinton visited friends in Aberdeen on last Sunday. Mr. Spooner will be re membered as a former Western Un ion operator here. Miss Marguerite Hunt has resigned as clerk at Mack’s Five and Ten Cent Store and is leaving for Florida this week. Prof. and Mrs. R. C- Zimmerman and daughters. Misses Theresa and RobeHa, visited relatives in Cum nock over the psist week-end. The Rev. and Mrs. W. V. McRae of Hamlet visited friends in Aberdeen on last Saturday. Mr. McRae is pleas, antly remembered here as a former preached serving the Pp£j Memorial Methodist Church. Mrs. Harris of Durham is spending some time in Aberdeen visiting her daughter, Mrs. E. B, Maynard. Mrs. Doub of Tobaccoville and Mrs. Jackson of Mt. Airy, mothers of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Doub, are visiting them for the present. Wilson a pa per on "Authors of Massachusetts, Whittier. Lowell and Holmes.” Mrs. H, E. Bowman read the poem, "The W'onderful One-Hoss Shay,” and the members answered the Roll Call with quotations from James Rus.sell Low ell. Following the program Miss Katherine Page gave an instrumental solo. Honoring Mrs. J. B, Eklwards, a recent bride, Mrs. Alton D. McLean entertained at four tables at bridge at her home last Thursday evening. The bri dal bouquet was effectively carried out in the tallies, prizes and refresh ments, with Mrs. Edwards being pre sented with a lovely piece of lingerie, and Mrs. George Martin receiving the high score prize. The Home and Garden Club was entertaned on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. L. Burney. The Home and Garden Club of Sanatorium met with the Aberdeen club and gave the program. Ira Womack of Broadway has ac cepted a position with E'. L. Mc Bride as assistant in the Aberdeen Shoe Rebuilder’s Shop. Miss Bertie Rivers is spending some time in Cheraw, S. C., visiting' relatives. Kenneth Keith announces this week the opening of Keith’s Tavern, the I new Shell service station located at ! the intersection of the Laurinburg and Raeford highways in Aberdeen. This is the first of two new Shell ^ places to open in Aberdeen this win- i ter. The other is expected to open within two or three weeks at the lo cation formerly occupied by the Car olina Discoimt Corporation, near the I Coca-Cola plant. Mr. Keith’s new I place will feature all Shell products. The Tavern is equipped wMth the modern style barbecue pits, which are placed inside the building. This is one of the few' of this type in this section. An up-to-date kitchen lunch counter, booths and a dance floor will all add to the attractions. Toasted sandwiches, beer, cold drinks and ice cream will be served at all hours. Keith’s Tavern is the third of Mr, Keith's business places in Aberdeen; he also operates Ken’s Lunch on South street and the Bluebird Service Station opposite the Tavern.
