Mayor Henry McCoy Blue is im proving after being confined to his home for two weeks with influenza. Mrs. Mary Campbell left for Ral eigh recently where she will spend some time visiting her daughter, Mrs- Alvis Thomas. Mrs. Jesse James Miley of Ashe ville, nee Miss Florence Wicker, is spending some time in Aberdeen vis iting her mother, Mrs. C. L. Walker. Miss Kathryn Charles is making a satisfactory recovery from a slight operation for the removal of a growth on her arm, at the Moore County Hospital last week. Glen Caviness, a student at Louis- burg College, spent the past week end at home. Buddy Davis of Davis is spending a while in Aberdeen visiting his sis ter, Mrs. E. M. Medlin. Miss Bertie Goodwyn has returned from LaCrosse, Bracey and Rich mond, Va., where she visited rela tives for two weeks. Mrs. Charles B. Thomas spent last week in Mt. Gilead where she was called home on account of the ill ness of her mother. Forrest Lockey attended the fun eral of his step-grandmother, Mrs. Stewart in Laurinburg, on last Wed nesday. George Martin and a party of friends spent last week on the coast of North Carolina on a fishing trip. Miss Jean Chester was a pianist on tbe entertainment committee for the club meeting given at the Civic Club in Southern Pines on last Thurs day afternoon. Dr. Marcus BroAvnson of Southern Pines was the luncheon guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Talbot Johnson on last Sunday. Mrs Earl Freeman spent last week in Candor visiting her mother, who has been quite ill Howard RuSsell has returned from New York City where he has been working for the past month. Miss Ruth McLean of Greensboro spent the week-end in Aberdeen vis iting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. McLean, Mrs. T. B. Wilder, Miss Alice Wil der and Mrs. E, L. Pleasants spent several days in Greensboro last week where they attended the Meth odist Bishops Rally. Mrs. H. A. Gunter was called to her home in Durham last week, on account of the serious illness of her father. T. S. Melvin spent last Wednesday in High Point on business connected with Melvin Brothers Store. Messrs. Kelly and Sterchi, of the Law Fiiton in Washington, D. C-, Kelly and Nicholaldes, were business visitors in town last week. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lawhon and daughter, Miss Ruth, motored to Carthage on last Sunday to visit relatives. Mrs. Alton McLean is confined to her home this week with a severe attack of influenza. Hemphill, has been promoted to the position of manager here. p arp:xt-te.\chebs meeting The January meeting of the Aber. deen-Pinebluff Association was held in the auditorium of the Grammar School of Aberdeen on last Wednes day afternoon, presided over by the president, Mrs. Henry Adder. The meeting was opened by the singing of “America, The Beautiful,” sung in concert followed by reports of the secretary and treasurer and the hairmen of the various committees. It was voted that the piano should be tuned for Mrs. Hafer, the music 'acher, and the stool repaired, in order to make her work easier, and a report from the Red Cross Seals Chairman announced that $100,00 worth of seals were sold in Aberdeen during the holidays. Mrs. J. Talbot Johnson read a petition gotten up by the Walter Hines Page Book Club 'hat South street in Aberdeen be wddened, which petition was signed by all members of the association present. Mrs. Addor read a note of thanks from the second grade for ' he cookies donated to them at the last meeting for having the largest percentage of mothers present, which were given by the Book Club. The 10th and 11th grades were repre sented by the largest percentage of •nothem present at the meeting and were presented with the cookies made by Mrs. Clifton M. Wilson. Mrs- J. Talbot Johnson promised to be re sponsible for securing a guest speaker for the February meeting, after which the meeting was turned over to Professor Zimmerman who gave an interesting and enlightening talk on the conditions of the Aber deen Schools.
