“Grand Illusion,” named the fin
^st picture ot the year produced ii
any country, and featuring Eric voh
Stroheim, Jean Gabin, Pierre Fres-
nay and Dita Parlo, will be shown
tomorrow evening, Saturday, (one
performance only) at the Carolina
Theatre, Pinehurst. All proceeds will
go to the Moore County Maternal
Welfare Committee, which is bring
ing this amazing picture here.
Word comes from New York that
“Mikado” will postively not be shown
anywhere this season at road show
prices and that it will follow “Pyg-
malian” into the Astor Theatre, New
York, for an extended run.
And it is with much gratification
to Manager Picquet that he is able
to announce the world premiere of
this lavish all-technicolor production
at the Pinehurst Theatre Sunday
night, March 26th at 8:30 and Mon
day, March 27th at 3:00 and 8:30
p. m.
"Mikado” is produced with the
world famous D’Oyly-Carte Gilbert
and Sullivan Opera Co., which pre
sents a series of Gilbert and Sullivan
operas every year on Broadway, with
the one exception of our own Kenny
Baker, who went to London to appear
in this screen production in the role
of "Nankipoo.”
“Mikado” is the first operetta to
be produced in its entirety on the
screen, but if the American cinema
goers prove that they are ready for
it, more such splendid productions will
follow.
The Sandhills has been chosen as a
"try-out” because it is believed we
! are the kind of folks who can and
I will appreciate the “better things
! in screen entertainment, which is a
! real tribute to our community.

The capabilities of two of Holly
wood’s flrst-r&te stars and an ace
director are pooled for one of the
most auspicious entertainments of
the season, “Love Affair,” the at
traction at the Pinehurst Theatre
Wednesday, March 29th at 3:00 and
8:30 p. m.
Co-starred in this exciting roman
tic drama are. Irene Dunne and
Charles Boyer, who have made stel
lar marks individually and now are
seen together for the first time. The
luminaries, together with an excel
lent supporting cast, are put through
their paces by Leo McCarey, re
membered for his splendid direction
of "The Awful Truth,” the Academy
award winner. The picture is a cun
ningly wrought item of unquestionably
pleasing entertainment, a film in the
varnished manner, but shot through
with plain situations, tempered with
popular music, a production most
powerful in individual sequences and
in numerous bits of sparkling acting.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s "The
Hound of the Baskervllles,” one of
literature’s most shocking, spine-
chilling mystery stories and the
greatest of all Sherlock Holmes' as
tounding adventures, has at last been
transcribed to the screen and is the
attraction at Pinehurst, Friday,
March 31st, at 3:00 and 8:30 p. m.
Tall, spare, hawk-llke Basil Rath-
bone. In the perfect fitting role of the
great detective. Is co-featured with
Richard Greene and Wendy Barrie.
Nigel Bruce plays the famous Dr.
Watson, the great detective’s con
stant complaint, Boswell, and amaz
ed observer. Also included in the
cast are Lionel! Atwell, John Carra-
dine, Byrl Mercer and Ralph Forbes.
