D. H. Turner President of Or-

Old Age Pension Bill
A very enjoyAle meeting was
held by the General Welfare Federa
tion Club on Monday night in the
Jefferson Inn. the parlor having been
kindly loaned ,to the club by Mr. and
Mrs. Reynolds.
It was the night for the election
of officers for the ensuing year. The
committee on nominations proposed
D. H. Turner for president, F. W.
Van Camp for vice president, Mrs.
Luella Smiley to succeed herself as
secretary, and Mrs. D. H. Turner
to succeed herself as treasurer. They
were elected with thanks to the
nominating committee.
Members read articles of the
good work of attorney Arthur L.
Johnson who is now lining up Con
gressmen to bring the bill No. 2520
to the floor for action on old age
pensions, and to equalize the amounts
paid to our aged throughout the
nation. Criticisms are now rife in
the land because some states pay as
low as $6.02 per month, w'hile some,
as California and New York, pay
as high as $32.45. North Carolina
pays $9.59.
