Turner President of Or- j^anization Seeking Passage of Old Age Pension Bill A very enjoyAle meeting was held by the General Welfare Federa tion Club on Monday night in the Jefferson Inn. the parlor having been kindly loaned ,to the club by Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds. It was the night for the election of officers for the ensuing year. The committee on nominations proposed D. H. Turner for president, F. W. Van Camp for vice president, Mrs. Luella Smiley to succeed herself as secretary, and Mrs. D. H. Turner to succeed herself as treasurer. They were elected with thanks to the nominating committee. Members read articles of the good work of attorney Arthur L. Johnson who is now lining up Con gressmen to bring the bill No. 2520 to the floor for action on old age pensions, and to equalize the amounts paid to our aged throughout the nation. Criticisms are now rife in the land because some states pay as low as $6.02 per month, w'hile some, as California and New York, pay as high as $32.45. North Carolina pays $9.59.
