The winning play was “Echo,” a drama in one act .and the members of the cast were Elaine Crotts, Hu bert Philpott, Jenky Miller and Bill Raker. The Southern Pines School will be closed Friday^ Marrh 8, due to a teachers’ meeting at Raleigh. The High Point College Band played for the chapel program at the high school Wedne.sday morning, March 12. Examinations will bo held Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20. Mr. Spain gave .some interesting figures: that the General Fund of the State collects, in round numbers, $3.>,000.000 annually; the Highway fund $32,000,000. He outlined how the funds were handled by the 289 wo men and 437 employed in the Reve. nue department, how on a peak day as many as 19,746 pieces of mail had been handled, with all receipts recorded and balanced that day; that as much as $7,000,000 had been re. ceived and balanced in one day; that ' the average day's mail brought 3,200 pieces of mail. $1,000,000 of revenue. He de.sfribed the workings of the Motor Vehicle License Bureau and otner divisions of his department. M>.
