called to Baltimore, Md., Ipst week
on account of the death of Mr. Ken
nedy’s mother.
Mrs. J. U. Renner, with her dau
ghter Binnie Lee, arrived on Tuesday
to visit her sister, Mrs. H. G. McEl-
roy for a few days.
Mrs. Carl Thompson left Sunday
for Raleigh to spend two weeks with
her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Lee Brown.
Mrsi. J. Fred Stimson was absent
from the City Treasurer's office the
first part of the week on account of
illness.

Pree left for Hamlet on Monday to
be the guests of Miss Agnes Cook.

Willing Workers was held at the
home of Mrs. Nellie Wells Mann.
Mr. and Mrs. George Draughn
were called to Angler on Monday on
account of the illness of Mi. Draugh's
mother.
A. L. Blue, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Hasty spent the week-end at
Myrtle Beach.
Lee Clark of Wa.shington, D. C.,
arrived Wednesday to join his wife
and son for the balance of the week.
FIItST AID AND “BETSY”
OCCUPY AMBULANCE UNIT
The Moore County Volunteer Am
bulance Unit held its third meeting
Tuesday evening at the Club House,
Pinehurst instead of the regular meet
ing place, the Community Church.
Through the kindly interest and ef-
foits of Mrs. Alice Burt Hunt, Miss
Hamilton of the Moore County Hos- i
pital and Lloyd Woolley, not forget
ting "Betsy” the ambulance, w'ere
there and the unit is really taking
form.
The class in First Aid under the
direction of Mr. Woolley, who will re
place Miss Hamilton, was started.
First-Aid handbooks were distribut
ed and a goodly hour was devoted to
First Aid talk by Mr. Woolley. As
the iFrst Aid class alone will cover ap
proximately 20 hours, it was decided
to meet every Wednesday at the
Community Church, Pinehurst,
I romptly at 7:30 p. m. when the firsi
two hours will be given over to First
Aid, and the next hour to studying
"Betsy." At the end of the First Aid
course, no doubt ‘'Betty” will receive
more attention. ,

The Vacation Church School which
comes to a close on Friday at the
Erownson Memorial Presbyterian
Church marks another milestone in
the progress and growth of the
church, this being the first Bible
School conducted there.
There are 77 children enrolled with
twelve teachers and workers. The
average attendance is around 70. The
beginners are in charge of Miss Sar
ah DuRant, with Misses Katheiine
Hilderman and Katherine Ferguson
tissisting. The primaries are in charge
of Xi!iss Leone Currie with Miss
Louise Blue assisting. The juniors and
intermediates are taught by Mis. R.
S. DuRant, Miss Helen Hilderman,
Charles Robinons, Jr., and the Rev.
E. L. Barber. Mrs. John Morrison
and Mrs. John Ferguson have render
ed great service in bringing the chil
dren to school. Mrs. Jean Edson is
pianist. Buddy Blue and Robert Bail
ey are assisting on the playground.

sion. The date set is July 19.
