Mrs. Marian Phillips announces the
engagement of her daughter, Miss
Mary Evelyn Phillips, to Lieut. James
Martin Pratt of Fort Jay, N. V.
Miss Phillips attended the Cottage
School, Pinehurst; the Ark, Southern
Pinos, and Pinehurst High School, and
rraduated with the 1940 class at No
tre Dame Academy, Southern Pines.
Lieut. Pratt is the son of Mrs. A. G.
Pratt and the late James Martin
Pratt of New York. He attended Cul
ver Military Academy and West
Point.
Miss Phillips has returned from
New York, where she was the giiest
of Mrs, A, G, Pratt at the Vander.

Tuesday afternoon the regular
monthly meeting of the Parent.Teach.

and community in relation to the Na.
tional Defense Program was ably dis
cussed by Mrs. Carlton C. Kennedy,
W. J. Harbison and Colonel George P.
Hawes.
Mr. Wilson reported First Aid Sup
plies had been purchased with part
of the money or bonus from the sell
ing of Christmas seals.
Mr. Harbison reported that paper
is being collected by the pupils, the
money from its sale to be uaed to
buy Defense Bonds, these eventually
to be used to purchase a projector for
the school.
Miss Mary Louise Riddick for the
ninth grade girls, and Miss Kuth Lilly
for the seventh grade, accepted the
attendance prizes.
Church Supper
The Woman’s Auxiliary of the
Community Church served a delicious
