The Southern Pines school district includes Knollwood and many children from there attend the local schools. The Town of Southern Pines furn ished Knollwood residences and ho. tels with water from its $350,000 plant at the same rate that residents within the corporate limits receive theirs. (In Raleigh, for instance, a 50 percent extra charge is made for those outside corporate limits). The Town of Southern Pines furn ishes the golf courses of Knollwood water for their sprinkler systems at a rate considerably (more than 50 percent) less than its regular rate. The Town of Southern Pinos makes available its $150,000 sewerage dis posal plant to handle the Knollwood sewerage at a rate of $25.00 per res- iience. (Higher for hotels). Knollwood residents about two years ago vetoed the idea of seek ing a “Knollwood” postofffce because they sougl.t to avoid the commercial, ism it might bring to the residential district. It was suggested by Pinehurst Pub. licUy Agent that Knollwood conduct a plebiscite among its residents to de termine which “dateline" should be u^ed for publicity. Asked by The Pilot about this, Southern Pines officials commented t^at no complai;jt had been register, ed with them and that the Town would be glad to work out a solution to the whole matter, datelines, inde pendence of utilities and anything else that Knollwood residents them, selves desired. As the week ended, the Knollwood Sanitary Commission, composed of Dr. D. B. Nettleton, chairman, W. C. Fownes. Jr., L. L. Biddle, II, H. H. BeckW'ith and Joseph W. Wood, had been approached by Pinehurst and Southern Pines and would probably meet for discussion of how best to halt this Battle of Publicity Agents. The manage ment wishes to take this occasion to express deep appreciation for past patronage and, if our efforts in the past to furnish the best attractions in comfortable surroundings merit it, we will be very happy to greet old', friejids and new, to all these special | attractions on our Anniversary Week, The attraction at Pinehurst.
