Johnson. 81-year-old min ister of Laurinburg. was guest speak er at the Vass Methodist Church Sunday morning. Mr. Johnson spoke on “Alcohol.” He was a dinner guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H, A. Borst. /Preibyterian Auxiliary The Presbyterian Auxiliary mot Tuesday night at the home of Mrs, N. N. McLean, Mrs. G. M. McDer mott led the program and Mrs. P. A, Wilson conducted the Bible study, at the conclusion of which the host ess served refreshments. Mrs. Taylor Is Hostess Mrs, Frederick L. Taylor was host ess to the Baptist Women’s Mission ary Union on Thursday evening. Miss Eloisc Brooks and Miss Agnes Smith joined the group for refreshments consisting of sandwiches, pear sal ad and iced tea. ' Personals Miss Elsie Mae Gschwind of Cam eron visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gschwind from Monday until Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs, Edward Gschwind arrived Monday from Newport News, Va., for a short visit with relatives here. T. R. Moffitt of Sanford spent Tuesday with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Koe and Mr. and Mrs. B. Koe and th^ir two daught ers of near Broadway visited Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Baker Sunday after noon. Mrs. Bernice Graham of Hamlet came last week to spend some time with Mrs, W. B. Graham and Miss Katharine Graham. Pvt. Bernice Graham has been transferred from Camp Jackson, S. C., to Camp Lee in Virginia. Mr, and Mrs. C. P. McMillan spent Sunday in Selma with his mother, Mrs. Hattie McMillan. Mr, and Mrs, John Cameron and daughter, Dora Katharine, of Castle Hayne, spent Sunday with Mrs. Cameron’s mother, Mrs. Dan Cam eron. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Phillips of Route 1 Cameron called on Mrs. Cameron Sunday evening. Miss Glennie Keith of Raleigh came Saturday to spend several days with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. H. Keith, Miss Myrtle McMillan has accept ed an office position with the furn iture plant at West End, Mr. and Mi-s. B, M, Corbett and Faye Corbett spent Sunday with relatives at Troy. Mrs. Corbett’s aunt and cousin, Mrs, J, B. Hare and Miss Lucy Hall, accompanied them home for a visit of several d^ys. Mr, and Mrs. W, P, ParkeV spent last week-end with relatives near Raeford. Pvt, Albert Graham left Saturday for Camp Chaffee, Ark., after spend ing his furlough at home. Mr, and Mrs. Hassell Abernathy j and children, Douglas and Faye, of Rocky Mount spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J, H. Abernathy. J, Temple. Jefferson Baker of Hemp spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Baker, on Carthage Road. Miss Myrtle Williams of Hemp vis ited her parents, Mr, and Mrs, W. M, Williams, over the week-end, Henry Callahan of High Point spent the week-end with his Calla han relatives here. Robert Crissman of Scott Field, 111., arrived Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G, W. Criss man. Glenn Crissman, who is engag ed in defense work at Newport News, Va., came Monday to spend a few days. PIISEHLRST Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dana and chil dren, Penelope and Shirley, and Mrs. F, H, Gunning are spending a vacation at Pawleys’ Island, S. C. A, C. McDonald spent two weeks with a sister, who is ill, at Sted- man. Mrs. Rassie Wicker is out after re ceiving treatment at the Moore County Hospital. Miss Harriet Shillinglaw, who ac companied Mrs, F, P. LaSorsa to Fondulac, Wis., returned the first of the week to her home in York, S. C. Mrs. LaSorsa has purchased a home in Fondulac, her former home town, and with her children Patricia and Frank, will reside there during Captain LaSorsa’s absence, on war duty. J. W, Harbison is at home after completing a six weeks course at the Duke summer school, Mr. and Mrs. P. S. P, Randolph, Jr,, have gone north on a vacation. Mrs. E, L, Scofield has gone north for several weeks’ stay, com bining a business and vacation trip and is at present the guest of Mr. and Mrs, William C, Fownes, Jr., at Hyannisport, Mass. Mrs. A. F. Eshleman of High Point is now visiting in Carthage, having spent the past week with her niece, Mrs, A, P, Thompson, Dr. and Mrs. F. L. Owens and baby daughter are visiting relatives in Johnstown, Pa. Friends will be sorry to learn Dr. Owens father is ill. Mrs. A. J, McKelway of Davidson was here Tuesday to attend the fun eral of C, B. Fields, Mrs. McKelway and her mother, Mrs. Kate Gibbon, spent several days this week as guests of Mrs. Meredith Herndon in Sanford. They came to attend the funeral of Miss Kitty Carter, in Sanford Monday. Miss Carter was di rector of the summer recreational program in Pinehurst three years ago. Donald Sherrerd has returned af ter several weeks spent with rela tives in Haddonfield, N. J., and New York on business. Mrs. H. A, Campbell and daught ers, Nancy and Frances, spent sev eral days in Fayetteville with' Mrs. Campbell’s mother, Mrs, F, M. ..lar- riss, W. R, Gilliland has returned from a week’s vacation spent in Brevard, Major and Mrs. M. J. Medenback are occupying the Black residence on Midland Road.
