Comings and Goings in Vass
At a rally of enthusiastic patrons
and friends of the Vass-Lakeview
school held in the school auditorium
Thursday evening, a parent-teacher
association was organized with tho
following officers; president, Mrs.
Raymond Johnson of Lakeview; vice
president, Mrs. Ben H. Wood of Vass;
secretary. Miss Louise Leslie of Vass;
treasurer, Edwin Causey of Lake
view. Mrs A. D. McLauchlin of
Route 2. Vass, was appointed chair
man of the membeiship committee.
R. C. Fields, principal of the
school, presided over the. meeting
and County Supt. H. Lee Thomas,
Mrs. H. Lee Thomas, chairman of the
Moore County PTA Council, and
Mrs. Eldon S. Adams, district chair
man, all of Carthage, spoke on PTA
work.
The gathering was 100 percent in
favor of tho organization, and around
30 paid their dues for the year be
fore leaving the building. It was de
cided to hold only five meetings dur
ing the school year on account of
transportation difficulties.

program.
Revival Services
A series of revival services will
begin in tho Vass Methodist Church
Sunday morning and continue
through the week. The Rev. E. C.
Crawford of Raeford w'ill assist in
the services.
Meat Canning Lesson
Miss Flora McDonald, home agent,
conducted an interesting meat can
ning lesson in the home economics
room of the local school Thursday
afternoon, sponsored by the Vass
Woman’s Club.
Student Minister Preaches
Raymond Spivey of Lee County,
ministerial student who served the
local Presbyterian Church as supply
pastor two summers ago. preached
Sunday morning for the Rev. C. M.
Voyles, who is away on vacation. A
large number of his friends were
pi'e.sent for tho servicc, several com-
mg from Cameron, Mr. Spivey’s for
mer home. He was a week-end guest
in the home of his aunt, Mrs. D. C.
McGill.
Observes Birthday
H. C. Callahan observed his birth
day anniversary Sunday with all of
his children at home for the occa
sion, oni‘ son-in-law, June McCaskill
of the U. S. Army, being the only
member of the family absent.

J. D. Arey has completed a thor
ough remodeimg ana renovation of
the Howell house at 63 N. Ashe
street, which he recently purchased.
The two-story building has been
made into two apartments, with sep
arate entrances, and completely fur
nished. New roof and a new coat of
paint for the house were among the
improvements. Needless, to say, Mr,
Arey reports that both apartments
are rented.
