S. will be held Friday evening Septem ber 4. at 8 o’clock at the Masonic Hall. The Magnolia Chapter meetings are held each first and third Friday nights of each month. Visitors are always welcome. Craighill Brown returned Wednesday from Pawley’s Island where they have spent I the past two weeks visiting Miss Ellen Maurice. Mr. Brown will resume his duties at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Sunday. D. Wade Stevick returned Thurs day from a trip to Lorain, O. Miss Emma Louise Hackney is in Moore County Hospital where she underwent an operation early this week. Newton Baker and Dan S. Ray, Jr., spent Tuesday in Raleigh. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Stevick and their young daughter, Linda, of Beaufort, N. C., are spending their vacation with Dr. Stevick’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Stevick on Ridge road. Also visiting Mr. and Mrs. Stevick is their daughter, Mrs. Mar vin Ray, of Fayetteville. Mr. Ray will join the family group on Sat urday' for a week-end visit. Mrs. C. M. Baxter and her son, Todd Baxter, returned to their home on New Hampshire avenue after spending the summer at Red Bird Beach, Msdison, O. Miss Betsy Barnum and Miss Alire Eddy spent last week-end in Rich mond, Va., with friends. Paul T. Barnum, who has been confined to a hospital in Charlotte with arthritis for some time, has re turned to his home here. He is still confined to his bed but his condition is improved. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thompson, Jr., spent last Friday and Saturday in Raleigh with Mrs. Thompson’s mo ther and grandmother. Mrs. Dante Montesanti and her brother Frank Occhipinti left Sun day night for Boston, Mass., where i Frank will reenter school and Mrs. Montesanti will visit her parents. Capt. and Mrs. John W. Harriman have taken the J. S. Milliken home on the corner of Ashe street and New Hampshire avenue for the season. Capt. and Mrs. Harriman have two daughters, Mary and Joan. Capt. Harriman, before entering the Army, taught finance at Dartmouth College in the School of Business Adminis tration. He is now connected with the Air Force Technical Training Command at Knollwood Field. Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Milliken and family moved this week to their apartment in the rear of Dr Milli- ken’s office. Their home is rented for the season. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hassell spent last week-end in Asheboro with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rush. Mrs. J. H. Tilghman spent last week-end in Chapel Hill with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Robert Tilghman, and helped celebrate the second birthday of her grandchild. Hunter. Another grandson, Bobby, returned to South ern Pines with Mrs. Tilghman for a visit. Pvt. Charles Everest spent last week-end here with Mrs. Margaret Cameron. Mrs. Nettie Ayers was hostess at Sunday dinner at Oak Point Farm Inn to Mrs. Jessie L. Rogers, Mrs. Margaret Cameron and H. A. Lewis. Mrs. Ray Hayes and son, Ray, Jr., tnd Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thompson and Mrs. Clara A. Scott went to Myrtle Beach Monday. Hayes End Ray have taken a cottage and will be there for two weeks. The rest of the party returned Monday night. Miss Pauline Miller returned Tues day from her summer vacation to re sume teaching in the Southern Pines High School. ' Mrs. Glenn Johnson has returned to her home in Wilmington, N. C., after visiting her sister, Mrs. Greer .Stutz, on Ashe street. Major and Mrs. Gerald Shepherd, former!/ of Southern Pines and re- 1 cently residing in Farmville, Va., have moved to St. Augustine, Fla. Major Shepherd is stationed at Camp Blanding. Mrs. Robert Walker, of Bob and Anne Walker Decorators, is vaca tioning in Boyce, Va. From there she v;ill go to Baltimore and New York for a two weeks business trip, Mrs, Garrison of Ardmore, Okla., is visiting her son, Capt. C. E. Gar rison, and Mrs. Garrison at their home on Massachusetts avenue. Col. and Mrs. O. A. Dickinson, and daughters, Patricia and Diane, have returned from two weeks spent at Morehead City. With them were Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hutaff and daught er of Fayetteville. Mrs. Hutaff is a daughter of the Dickinsons. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page and Mr. and Mrs, Henry Page left this week for a two weeks vacation in Colo rado. Mrs. J. B. Rountree is spending some time in Lumberton with Mr. and Mrs. J. B.
