CAMERON IN UNUSUAL GAME
The Southern Pines Basketball
team played Cameron there last
Tuesday night. The game started
off swiftly. Both teams were even
ly matched, and few baskets were
scored. Southern Pines was leading
at the end of the first quarter. In
the second quarter Cameron came
back with a bang, and at the half
colnton, formerly of Southern Pines, | they were leading by one point. Ear-

SOUTHERN PINES
SCHOOL NOTES
SIXTH GRADE
Jo Ann Ashcraft is a new pupil
in Miss Buckner’s Room, alter being
in four schools this year., She likes
our school. She thinks her room is
very interesting, and the people in
it friendly.
There are also two of’aer new pu
pils in the room—June Long and
David Roth. All three are good stu-
! dents, and help the room.
Before June Long came here she
went to school at Fort Bragg, N. C.
She, thinks her room a very interest
ing One—much more interesting
than most rooms she has been in.
She likes the library better than
anything in school, because she likes
and fourth quarters, but when the
timer’s horn blew, the score wak
tied,'23-23. After a two minute time
out the game was resumed for an
extra 3 minute period- Both teams
scored a basket in this period and
the game was still tied as time grew
short. In the last few seconds of the
game Cameron had possession of the
ball, but just as the horn blew, the
referee called a foul on a Cameron
player. Worsham took the foul shot
and won the game 27-26.
The girls’ game, played earlier,
was as evenly matched but not as
si^edtacular. Southern Pines won,
16-15.
We 'are looking forward to our
next game with Cameron which will
be played at the Southern Pines high,
school, Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30.

ly in the third quarter, Chan Page,
Southern Pines forvyard, got his di
rections mixed and' raced up the
court to score a basket for Cam
eron. This put Cameron even fur
ther in the lead. The game see-saw-
ed back and forth through the third

There are not many mornings that
the Sixth Grade pupils do not have
an order for defense stamps- They
have fun buying them, but it won’t
be fun for Hitler and To jo when
those stamps are turned into guns,
tanks, and planes. So far, George
Straka has bought more than any
one in Miss Buckner’s Sixth Grade.
He has invested three hundred and
twenty-five jdiollars jn bonds. He
has made all of this by selling pa
pers. He hopes he will get enough
to buy a car after the war.
