Miss Murphy Announces
Final'Wedding Plans
Miss Marie Murphy, who is to be
married Saturday to Duncan Googan
Malloy, Jr., of Lumber Bridge, has
announced her attendants and final
wedding plans.
The ceremony will take place at
five thirty o’clock in the First Bap
tist Church in Southern Pines, with
the Reverend J. Fred Stimson offi
ciating, assisted by the Reverend
Malcolm Calhoun of Saint Paul.s.
Miss Murphy will be attended by
her sister. Miss Ann Murphy, as
maid of honor, and her aunt, Mrs.
R. Earl Wagoner of China Grove,
will be matron of honor. Bridesmaids
will be Miss Betsy Jean Backer of
Southern Pines, Miss Helen Ruth
Cole of Pinehurst, Mrs. Dan Proctor,

Honoring Mrs. C. W. Kellam on
her birthday, Mrs- George Abraham
entertained at luncheon on Tuesday.

Catholic Benefit
The bridge party given by Miss
Kathryn McMahon at Highland
Lodge on February 22 for the ben
efit of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church
proved a very happy and successful
affair, both socially and financially.
The attractive living rooms of the
Lodge -Were appropriately decorated
for the occasion and afforded spa
cious accommodations for the twelve
tables in play.
A thirty-two egg angel cake, which
was made and donated by Mrs. Mer
man, was raffled off and won by
Mrs. Punari of Pine Needles. Mrs-
Punari returned it to be resold so
that the fund benefitted by $19.00
from the cake alone.
Pairs of Cannon towels, given by
a New York friend, made prizes for
each table. These were won by Mrs.
Aldrich, Mrs. Gage, Mrs. Marcott,
Mr. Matthews, Mrs. Rathbun, Mrs.
King, Miss Berne Randall, Mrs.
Smiley, Mrs. Thayer, Mrs. George
Thompson, Miss Vanderveer and
Miss Alice Warner.
Miss McMahon expressed her ap
preciation to all those who attended
and to those who donated generous
ly to make the affair a success.
Parents of Daughter
A daughter was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond G. Johnson of
Clarkesville, Ga., on December 28,
1943. The baby has tieen named
Ruth Marie. Mrs. Johnson is the
former Ruth Richardson of Southern
Pines.

Pine Dodgers Will Hold
Leap Year Tournament
There were eighteen members
present at the weekly Pine Dodgers
luncheon at the Country Club Wed
nesday afternoon. The golf for the
afternoon was played with a Blind
Bogey.
On Sunday, February 27, the Pine
Dodgers will entertain the Sand Pi
pers at a Leap Year golf tournament.
This will be a .two ball mixed four
some and the tee will be at one
o’clock. Each Pine Dodger will con
tact the Sand Piper with whom she
is to play.
