Edith Poate Hassell and ersonai Is or the (2) andliilL Miss Marie Murphy Wed in Formal Ceremony Saturday Afternoon In a late afternoon ceremony of J beauty and distinction on Saturday,' February 26, in the First Baptist! Church of Southern Pines, Miss Ma- | rie Murphy became thf bride of Duncan Googan Malloy, Jr., of Lum ber Bridge. ' A double ring ceremony was used with Rev. J. Fred Stimson, pastor of the church, taking the bride’s re sponses and Rev. Malcolm Calhoun of St. Pauls hearing the responses of the groom. The vows Were- spoken in a beautiful setting of tall pine boughs, southern smilax and ivy, which made a background for light ed tapers and large baskets of white gladioli. -JBfifore the ceremony Miss Dorothy Phillips of Chapel Hill gave a pro gram of organ music. Miss Frances Storey of Rockingham sang Schu bert’s “Ave Maria”, “I Love Thee” by Grieg, and “Because” by D’Har- delot. Tiny Crissy Leonard of Wel come sang “The Sweetest Story Ever Told”. The traditional wedding marches were used. Miss Murphy was given in mar riage by her father, A. E. Murphy, and wore a gown of white duchess satin. The bodice of the gown was fitted and had a sweetheart neck line and long sleeves ending in points over the hands. It was finish ed in back with a long row of tiny Mrs. Duncan Googan Malloy, Jr. for the wedding party and town guests at the Hollywood Hotel. Mr. and Mrs- L. G. Frazier, aunt and uncle of the bride, received at the door. Miss Bess and Miss Kate Mc Intyre introduced guests to the re ceiving line. Miss Janice Kimball itook charge of the bride’s book. A I buffet supper was served with a Parties Honor Miss Murphy Mr. and Mrs. R. Earl Wagoner, aunt and uncle of the bride, enter tained at a cake cutting for Miss i Murphy and Mr. Malloy Saturday I night immediately after the wedding rehearsal. The table was covered I with a white lace cloth, and center- j ed with a bowl of white roses and snapdragons flanked by white can- j dies in silver holders. The first piece jof the beautifully decorated wedding : cake was cut by the bride and groom then the other guests, members of the wedding party, were served by Mrs- Wagoner, Miss Kay O’Brien presided eVfeJ* the pURch bdwl. The table Was appropri ately decorated with a centerpiece of spring flowers and covers^^ were laid for ten guests besides the hoh- oree. Their dresses were fashioned alike of blue net with shired bodices, sweetheart necklines and full skirts. They carried arm bouquets of mixed flowers. Miss Jean Murphy, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. She wore a dress of yellow net made in the same style as the bridesmaids’ dresses and carried a bouquet of mixed flowers- Little Earl Wagoner, Jr., cousin of the bride, carried the wedding rings down the aisle on a satin pillow and Faye Johnson, niece of the groom, scattered rose petals in the path of the bride. Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Dante Mohtesanti have announced the engagement of their cousin, Miss Adeline Trubian: of Quinicy, Mass., and Lt. William J. Wilson of Southern Pines, now sta tioned with the Army Air Forces at Tampa, Flowda- Buffet Supper wore shoulder the white orchid from her wedding bouquet. Mrs. Malloy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edward Mur phy of Southern Pines. She is a graduate of , Mars Hill College at Mars Hill and the Woman’s College at Greensboro. She taught school at Parkton and Welcome and more re cently has been employed at Knoll- wood Field and Camp Mackall. Mr. Malloy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Googan Malloy of Lum ber Bridge, is a graduate of Presby terian College at Maxton.
