engagerpent of Miss Mary Lou Ran
kin of Ellerbe and John McCrum-
men of West End, which was made
Sunday by the bride-elect’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wallace Ran
kin. Mr. McCrummen, son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Daniel Mc
Crummen, was for several years a
school principal in the county.

Miss Gloria Gray Medlin, daught

returned to Aberdeen following her
graduation from Marjorie Webster
Junior College, Washington, D. C.
She was co-editor of the college pa
per and a member of Delta Psi
Omega, national honorary fraternity
for college dramatics. Miss Medlin
gave her dramatic recital Thursday
evening, May 18. Mrs. Medlin attend
ed the recital and graduation exer
cises.

Nancy Boyd was graduated from
St. Timothy’s School at Cantonsville,
Md., Thursday of last week. Her
mother, Mrs. James Boyd attended
the commencement exercises and
they returned to Southern Pines
this week. Miss Boyd plans to enter-

Miss Hilderman was graduated
from Woman’s College with the de
gree of bachelor of arts in chemis
try. She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. C- Hilderman of Massachu
setts Avenue and during her under
graduate years at Woman’s College
took part in many student activities.
She was a member of the fresh-
rnan commission, the Aletheian So
ciety, sang in the choir, was active
in the Playlikers, the Medical Tech
nologists, and the Square Circle
Miss Hilderman served as vice pres
ident of the Chemistry Club and was
also a proctor and junior advisor.

ing this summer with the Malaria
Control Division of the U. S. Health
Department at New Bern. Mrs. Daw
son and baby daughter. Dona Leigh,
are in Bladenboro but will join

The Reverend Craighill Brown and
David Cameron left Monday for two
weeks at Vade Mecum, Episcopal
diocesan camp for boys. Mr. Brown
is serving on the staff of the camp.
Dr. T. H. Olive and son. Tommy,
of Mt. Gilead, spent several days
this week with Mr. and Mrs. Wal
ter Olive.
Miss Irene Olive left Wednesday
to join a group of about thirty Mer
edith College students who, for the
next few weeks, will do field work

College Miss Murphy was a mem
ber of the Home Economics Club,
the Y.W.C.A., the chair, and the
Dikean Society. She served as jun
ior manager and co-manager of the
tavern. Miss Murphy is now a diet
etic interne at Vanderbilt University
Hospital, Nashville, Tenn., where af
ter a year’s in-service trafning she
will qualify for membership in the
American Dietetic Association.
