Dickinson of Southern Pines announce the en gagement of their daughter, Jeanne Lee, and Major R. F. Hoke Pollock of Kinston. Miss Dickinson is the granddaughter of the late Colonel and Mrs. William Langdon Buck. She attended Peace Junior Col lege in Raleigh and Centre Col- , lege in Danville, Kentucky. Major 1'^ ! Pollock is the son of Mrs'. Frances Hoke Pollock of Kinston. He attend ed the University of North Carolina, receiving his law degree at Wake Forest. Prior to entering upon active duty in the army in 1940, Major Pollock was a practicing attorney in Kinston. He served with the 113th Field Artillery and as assistant ex ecutive to the Judge Advocate Gen eral. He is now Staff Judge Advo cate with the 13th Airborne Division at Camp Mackall. He is a member of Sigma Epsilon fraternity. Mrs. Rush is Great Grandmother Mrs. M. B. Rush, Mrs. Charles W. Picquet’s mother, is very proud of the fact she recently be came a great-grandmother. The ba by is Sally Ann Teaufel, who was born on Friday, July. 28, to Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Teaufel of Rocky River, Ohio. Mrs. Teaufel is the former Miss Ann Rush, a granddaughter of Mrs. Rush. She has visited the Pic- quets at their home on Midland Road and has made friends in this section. Buffet Supper and Shower for Miss Dickinson Mrs. S. D- Fobes and Mrs. Fordyce Gorham were joint hostesses Thurs day evening of last week at Skyline honoring Miss Jeanne Dickinson, whose engagement to Major R. F. Hoke Pollock has just been announc ed, at a buffet supper and shower. Miss Ellen Vale won high score at bridge which was played after sup per. The guests included Colonel and Mrs. O. A. Dickinson, parents of the bride-elect, their elder daugh ter, Mrs. S. M. McDonald en tertained the members of the choir of the Church of Wide Fellowship at dinner Monday evening at their home on Vermont Avenue. After dinner games were played and prizes given. Announce Birth of Daughter Lt. and Mrs. Earl C. Sherry, Jr., announce the birth of a baby dau ghter at the Camp Mackall Station Hospital on Wednesday, July 19; The baby has been named Susan Clare. Lt. and Mrs. Sherry are making their home in Southern Pines while Lt. Sherry is stationed at Camp Mackall. Son Born to Corporal and Mrs. Mulholland A son, Joseph Gerald, was born to Corporal and Mrs. John Mulholland at the Fort Bragg Hospital on Satur day, July twenty-ninth. Dr. Vida McLeod and her mother, Mrs. Franklin Canaday, will leave Sunday night for San Antonio, Tex as. Dr. McLeod will return after a few days’ stay in San Antonio. Mrs. William Milam left Tuesday for a vacation in Washington, D. C., and New York City. Mrs. Leon Schwerzmann, who has been with her husband in Salina, Kansas, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Margaret Silver. Mrs- Cliff Johnson and her sister. Miss Mary Hartgrove of Hamlet, ar rived Sunday night from Blowing Rock, where they spent a week’s vacation- Miss Hartgrove is now vis iting Mr. and Mrs. Johnson in Sou thern Pines. Mrs. George Jones of Napticoke, Pennsylvania, has received word that her husband, Lt. Jones, has been missing in action in France since the latter part of June. Lt. and Mrs- Jones were former residents of Sou thern Pines and have a number of friends here. Miss Millie Montesanti returned Tuesday from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she spent a number of weeks. Mrs. R. L. Johnson and Miss Gen eva Hall have returned from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they spent two weeks’ vacation. Miss Betsy Barnum is spending a week in Albemarle as the guest of Miss Virginia Nevin. Mrs. Amelia Schmidt and Mrs. William E. Crain are vacationing in New York State. Mrs. Warren Matthews and chil dren, Lana and Kay, left Saturday for Fayetteville where they will visit Mrs. Matthews’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Utley. E. B. Keith, E. B. Whittall and her chil dren left last week for a vacation in the North. Frank Walker returned Saturday from a trip to western Pennsylvan ia. Mrs. Walker and Miss Anna Walker, who went to Pennsylvania with Mr. Walker, have gone to In dianapolis, Indiana, where they will visit Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Walker. Mrs. R. P. Brown returned to her home in Norfolk, Virginia, Wednes day morning after spending a week with her sister, Mrs- W- H. McNeill. Mrs. Harold Greenman has . gone to her summer home in Hammonds- port, New York. Mrs. R. E. Wiley was called to Lynchburg, Virginia, last Thursday to attend the funeral of her sister, Mrs. L. W. Walsh, who died sudden ly following a heart attack. Mrs- Walsh is pleasantly remembered ^and will be missed by the many friends made during visits in Southern Pines. Mr. and Mrs. Slater Haire and chil dren of Elizabethtown spent the weekend with Mr- and Mrs. Marshall Palmer. They are the first Service Churches to be organized at Camp Mackall. The ones now being organized are for members of Protestant Churches, who when already church members, merely sign a pledge card in order to become members- Those not now members of any church may join by profession of faith. Membership in home churches is not affected by membership in any Service Church as a soldier may retain membership in both. The first to be organized at Camp Mackall car ried a charter membership of 21 members, and a meeting was held Thursday evening to elect twelve board members, who will be the gov erning body of the organization.
