Leslie, who has been sick for about two months, returned from the Moore County Hospital last Thursday after undergoing treatment there for over six weeks. His condition is much improved and he can sit up for a few minutes at the time. , Tobacco Crop Bums Bill (W. A.) Muse of Cameron was in town Sunday night and told of the hard luck which G. T. Isgett, a farmer who lives out from Cameron, had. He had finished curing tobacco and had all of his year’s crop ex cept abopt 100 sticks stored in a feed barn, which went up in flames Friday. Mr. Isgett did not know how the fire started. His wife had been to the barn only a few minutes be fore it was discovered and had not seen anything wrong. Loses Sight of Eye L. D. Thomas, prominent farmer of Carthage Route 3, was in town Saturday afternoon and said that he had recently discovered that he was blind in his left eye. Whiling away the time at a tobacco barn Mr. Thomas covered up one eye and then the other, looking at some trees, and it was then that he found that he could not see with his left eye. He consulted an oculist, but was not given any encouragement as to re gaining his sight. Ill From Spider Bite W. C. Cox was quite ill Saturday and Sunday, his symptoms indica ting that he had been bitten by a black widow spider. While not suf fering such intense pain Monday, he was still in bed and will probably be unable to work for several days. Rheumatic Fever Clyde Cox, Jr., has been in bed for several days with rheumatic fever. Church Service The Rev. J. O. Long will preach in the Vass Methodist Church at 11 o’clock Sunday morning. All are cordially invited to attend. Personals Palmer Causey of Hamlet spent Friday night with his sister, Mrs. Martha Myers. Mrs. Ted Rosser and Mrs. Charles Beal were Sanford visitors Thurs day. Mrs. W. H. Keith returned from Wallace last week, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Steve Mallard, and little Merle and Patsy Keith Mallard. Mrs. Mallard has been sick and is spending some time with her mother, recuperating. Mrs. R. M. Gladstone, Jr., of Greensboro was the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gladstone. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Griffin spent Thursday night in Raleigh with rel atives. Mrs. R. G. Rosser and daughter. Miss Janet Rosser, visited Dr. R. G. Rosser, Jr., in Durham Thursday. Mrs. W. B. Graham, Miss Katharine Graham and Mrs. C. J. Temple spent a day last week with Mrs. W. D. Matthews of Southern Pines. Mrs. Ben Wood, Marilyn and Philip Wood visited Mrs. Celia Shaw at her home on Route 1, Cameron, Sunday afternoon. Billy Wood, who had been with his grandmother on the farm all summer, returned home wtith them. Mrs. T. Frank Cameron went to Littleton Saturday to spend several days in the home of her. brother, Clinton Edgerton. Mr. and Mrs. Murdoch Cameron and little daughter of Cameron Route visited Mrs. Dan Cameron and son, Frank, Sunday afternoon. Cpl Garneth Fallenstine, home from a camp in Kentucky, Mrs. Fal lenstine, and their little son and Misses Jane, Lola and Maggie Fal lenstine, all of High Point, visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jeffreys Sunday. Mrs. J. M. Tyson spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Abernathy. She returned to Carthage Tuesday after having spent several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Tyson. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Frye visited Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Wallace of Pine- hurst Sunday .afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Redga Thomas and son. Mack, of Route 1, Cameron, were Sunday afternoon callers in the home of Mr. and iVlrs. R. L. Oldham.- Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Woolley of Manly and Miss Joyce Bailey of Sou thern Pines visited in the home of Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Rosser Sunday afternoon. Mrs. G- W. Griffin and Mrs. Bertie L. Mdtthews went to Raleigh Thurs day. ’Mrs. Horton Womble and Mrs. Walter Doby were Aberdeen and Southern Pines visitors Saturday. Miss Merle Womble spent last week in Pittsboro in the home of her siste^ Mrs. Bernard Courtney. Mrs. Lillie Richardson Seagrove and daughter of Raleigh stopped in town Monday evening on their way to Lakeview to visit relatives. Franklin Beasley, Howard , Gsch- wind, Franklin Gilliland, Ed Mc Nair, “Buddie” McRae and Jeffer son Baker, popular young men of PINEBLUFF Billy McMaster left last week for Ft- Bragg, where he was inducted in to the Army. Mrs. Timothy Clearly spent sev eral days in Sanford last week with friends. Sgt. and Mrs. Jim Knott left Sun day for Pittsburg, Pa., where they will spend a two weeks’ furlough. Mrs. A. G. Wallace spent Saturday in Fayetteville. Mrs. Joe Rarden and Miss Ruth Rarden returned home Friday after spending ten days in Louisville, Ky., with relatives. Mrs- Robert Powers has returned to her home in Now; York City after visiting in the home of Mrs. Harry Howie. Miss Flora Buchan of Sanford was a guest in the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Stewart. Mrs. George Wilks of Wagram is visiting her daughter, Mrs. A. Wilks and Mrs. Will Tyner. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Daniels of Lykesland, S. C., were weekend guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Baker. Mrs. R. L. Short of Carthage- is visiting in the home of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Short. Miss Gwen Pickier spent the week end in Rockingham with Miss Mar tha Sedbury. Mr. and Mrs. John Adams enter tained at a dinner in their home Friday night in honor of the new Baptist minister, the Rev. J. C. Mc Queen. Besides Mr. McQueen the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Abram Van Boskerck and Mrs. I. G- Wyley. Mr. and Mrs. John Adams spent the weekend in Norman with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lowdermilk.
