o Friday, October 12, 1945. Highland Pines Inn East Massachusetts Avenue WEYMOUTH HEIGHTS Fall and Winter Season ROOMS NOW AVAILABLE DINING ROOM OPENS NOVEMBER 1st GARLAND A. PIERCE, Manager SOUTHERN PINES, N. C. 6 Let's tear your electric bill to pieces Go AHEAD, lady—tear your electric bill apart and see what it’s all about. % This little piece lights all your lamps. This one plays your radios. This cools and keeps your food. This washes your clothes. This takes care of the cooking and ironing and cleaning. And so on. That’s a lot of different jobs to be covered by one small CARTHAGE Mrs. McKeifhen Honored Honoring MJrs. N. A. McKeith- en on her eightieth birthday, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Carter entertained at a buffet supper at their home on Pinehurst Drive Sunday even ing. The dining table, covered with a lace cloth, was centered with a crystal bowl of flowers flanked with lighted tapers in crystal holders. Present were Mrs. McKeithen, Capt. and Mrs. Jere McKeithen and son, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Mc Keithen, and R(^rs. Ralph Leach, all of Aberdeen; Neal A. Mc Keithen, Lumberton; Misses Annie and Frances McKeithen, Mrs. Mary McKeithen Clegg, Miss Frances Ann Clegg, Misses Marg aret and Janet Carter, and M!r. and Mrs. Carter. Mrs. McKeithen received many lovely gifts. Mrs. Cox Entertains Mrs. Charles Cox entertained a number of friends at dinner at Oak Point Inn Friday evening, honoring Capt. and Mrs. Dwight M. Currie of Baltinaore, Md. Oth ers enjoying the three-course din ner were Miss Mery L. Currie, W. H. Currie, Mr. and Mrs. U. L. Spence,. Miss Catherine Cox, the Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Golden, and Miss Ann Golden. Personals Mrs. W. J. Tennant left Sunday for her home in Asheville after spending four weeks at the Car thage i Hotel. Attend Game Among those attending the Duke-Navy game Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Sinclair, Jr,, W. D. Sabiston, Jr., Billy Sab- iston, Earl B. McDonald, Blue MdDonald, Miss Mary Jackson Yow, John Willcox, Capt. and Mrs. Dwight M. Currie, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Currie, Miss Mary Currie, Ben Lee and Hoover Car ter. bill. And—hold on! You’ve paid for more than just electric ity. About 25c oi every dollar you pay for electric service ^oes in turn for taxes which benefit your com munity and help pay for the war. Taxes UP. . . . General cost of living UP. . . . You’d think the cost of electric service would be up, too. But it isn’t. It has even come down a little since the war began. Actually— The average family gets about twice as much elec tricity for its money today as it did fifteen years ago! This welcome fact comes from the careful planning and progressive spirit of America’s business-managed, self- supporting electric companies. • Hear NELSON EDDY in "THE ELECTRIC HOUR" with Robert Armbrusfer's Orchestra, Every Sunday, 4:30 p. m., EWT, CBS Network. Here is another job that will never be finished—one that requires patience, constant study, forebearance and the will ingness to work quietly on the "biggest offensive" in the world. You are needed to teach, to sing, to train, to encourage many boys and girls now enrolled in the Sunday Schools of this community. No one has to tell you about war, or the advantages of peace, but there are million: of youngsters in this country, hundreds anc thousands in this community whom you can help to think straight about the real values in life. Whether you served as a private, ordinary seaman or a general your experience and leadership can be of tremendous value in any Church or Sunday School in this town.
