THE PILOT. Southern Pines, Norlh Caroluw United Stetes Marines Form UNO Guard Friday, May 17, 1946. FOR SOLICITOR 13th DISTRICT VOTE To those of you whom I have not been able to contact personally due to pressing business —I take this medium of appealing to you to VOTE Saturday, May 25 for the man whom you think is best qualified in every way to rep resent YOU in public office. As a candidate for the office of Clerk of the Superior Court of Moore County I again wish to emphasize the fact that 1 have had years of experience in finance, trusts and estates. I am 41 years of age. Your vote in this Primary will be Appreciated. Thanks again— VOTE. Carlton Kennedy H. Clifton Blue FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM MOORE COUNTY To the Democratic Voters of Moore County: I would appreciate very much your support in be half of my candidacy for the House of Representatives from Moore County in the Democratic Primary to be held on Saturday, May 25th. I would like to see every voter personally, but since that is not practical, I am writing this open letter, and hope thgi you will speak to others in my behalf. If nominated and elected, I want you to feel free to advise me of your sentiments concerning any and all legislation which may come before the next General Assembly in which you are interested. It would be my wish to represent the entire County in an impartial manner to the best of my knowledge and ability. I realize that I would be but one of 120 members tof the House, and that the Senate with a representative from Moore, would have equal authority and responsi bility, and for this reason it would be unwise to make promises of legislation which I would enact, or legisla tion which I would kiU. I could and would do my best to justly represent my County and State in the Lower House of the General Assembly. I want to assure you that I will be very grateful for your support and that it will be remembered. Sincerely Riotous merriment, rollicking mirth and Ray Milland will be the delightful filmfare promised by the Pinehurst Theatre, Sunday night. May 19th, at 8:30 when Paramount’s comedy, “The Well Groomed Bride” will be seen. All this, and Sonny Tufts and Olivia DeHaviland, too, who co-star with Milland in what is said to be one of the season’s most hi' larious romantic farces. In a remarkable departure from the dramatically tragic role of the dipsomaniac in “The Lost .Weekend,” for the performance of which he won the Academy award, Milland is cast as a young Navy Lieutenant with a quick wit and a sharp eye - for women. An excellent flair for comedy is displayed by Olivia Dehavilland, who handles her assignment per fectly, while Sonny Tufts has the type of ingratiating role which has zoomed his popularity sky- high. Audience of all types will get plenty of laughs from this hilar ious comedy, which starts on a mery note and continues that way throughout. A healthy slice of Amaricana, a lusty, turbulent, romantic pict ure of this country’s awakening I to her potential wealth and power in the latter half of the nineteen th century, is vividly portrayed in the film drama of love and adventure, “Saratoga Trunk,” returning to the Sandhills at the Carolina Theatre, Southern Pines, Sunday through Thursday, (5 days) May 19th. - 23rd., with a Matinee Thursday (Only) at 3:00 P. M. Starring the year’s most acc laimed actress, Ingrid Bergman, and Gary Cooper, the film also fealjures Fldra Robson, Jerry Austin, John Warburton, Florence Bates and Cur Bois in varied and unusual supporting roles. Adapted from Edna Ferber’s highly successful and widely- read novel of the same name, the story of Clio Dulaine (played by Miss Bergman) and Clint Maroon (played by Gary Cooper) is as bizarre and intriguing as its lead ing characters. “Perilous Holiday,” the Colli er’s Magazine serial by Robert Carson that thrilled millions, is returning to the Sandhills, at the Carolina Theatre, Southern Pines, Friday and Saturday, May 24-25 at 8:15 P. M. , with a Saturday Matinee at 3i00. The film stars Pat O’Brien and Ruth Warrick, alone with Alan Hale, Edgar Buchanan and Audry Long The film is a perfect vehicle for Pat O’Brien, providing him with the romantic swaggering type of role at which he is so adept. An easy chair that can be deflated and folded so it can be carried in a lady’s handbag is the Vinylite job shown above as pictured in the April issue of Science Illustrated magazine. MONROE To my buddies of World War I and World War II and to servicemen and women of all wars. I need your support in my campaign for Register of Deeds of Moore County. I will not be able to see all of you and shake your hand, but I assure you that I know the countersign. We were brothers in arms over seas and we fought together to win—and we did win. Now, buddies, I don’t know the first thing about political trickery. But I do know, buddies, that you and your mothers and fathers have the biggest voting power and buying power in Moore County.
