PATCH Department Store SP Golf Club To Have Lal)or Day Tournament Five teams and sixty or more players of the Sandhills Golf League are expected to take peirt in the Labor Day golf tournament to be played at the Southern Pines Country Club. , The teams that will take part are: Rockingham-Hamlet, Wades- boro, Laurenburg, Lumberton and Southern Pines. Southern Pines, to date, is leading the League — undefeated in six matches. This Labor Day Tournament is the opening gun of a program to_ establish Southern Pines more firmly than ever as one Of the leading golfing centers of the South. In recent years Pinehurst has stepped far ahead of South ern Pines as the mid-South center of important golfing tourna ments. Southern Pines declares itself back in the race. W. W, Sherman, new owner of the Southern Pines Country Club, is definitely interested in show ing the best in the golfing world that Southern Pines can offer as much or more than any other golfing resort in , the South. ARTHUR PATE 1st Lt. Arthur Pate received his discharge at Fort Bragg and is now here on terminal leave. Lt. Pate was with the 9th Air Force, Troop Carrier Sqdn., and spent 18 months overseas serving in Germany and Englaild. He flew an air route from Munich to Paris for army personnel and for a time flew Greeks, working in Germany, back to their native land. Arthur plans to visit in Ar kansas during his leave time. His brother Lewis is stationed in Cal ifornia with the 3rd Air Force and the other member of the family,' James, is a member of THE PILOT staff. James was S|Sgt. in the 5th Air Force, was in the army for four years, and spent 30 months in the Pacific. at the Sunrise Theatre through United Artists release. The belated attention for the “forgotten men and women” of Hollywood is the result of the pe culiar requirements of the photo play based on Breneman’s phen omenally popular air show. To short cut the necessity of nom-de-movies for so many play ers, Director Harold Schuster hit upon the easy out by having those performers speak out their own names and home towns. Of course all minor characters who at long last get a chance to ]shed their professional anony mity love it. NORRIS HODGKINS Upon completion of the N. R T. C. course at Duke University last week Norris Hodgkins re ceived his commission as Ensign. All V-12’s and N. R. T. C. stu dents not desiring active duty have been discharged. Ensign Hodgkins, after attending Duke for 20 months, received his dis charge at Camp Shelton, Va.
