Arey, Jr. » I Poplar St Aberdeen Tei. 87oi The Carolinas The much heralded production, “Sister Kenny”, starring Rosa lind Russell and Alexander Knox, is the attraction at the Pinehurst Theatre, Sunday Night, Novem ber 10th. at 8:30. This is one of those infrequent biographical films that does full justice to the subject while at the same time providing sock enter tainment, as foremost among the picture’s many praiseworthy qualities are performance which are excellent in all instances and exceptional in the case of Rosa lind Russell in the title role. The New York Sun states that it is “Sheer entertainment, well worth seeing. Excellent drama and by far Miss Russell’s best screen portrayal,” and the New York Tribune calls it “Absorbing and moving, superbly entertain ing, emerging with tremendous force and feeling,” while the New York Times, pays tribute with ‘Rich and inspiring. Miss Russell plays with tremedous vitality and warmth. Inspirational entertain ment in the high-powered class.” On Friday, November 15th., at 8:30 P. M. the Gary Cooper, Lilli Palmer starring vehicle, “Cloak And Dagger” plays a return en gagement at the Pinehurst Thea tre. ' Returning to the Sandhills at the Carolina Theatre, Southern Pines, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10-11-12, at 8:15 P. M. with a Tuesday Matinee at 3:00 is the new Bette Davis att raction, “Deception,” with Claude Rains and Paul Henreid in sup port. Upon request of many patrons who did not have the pleasure of seeing the noteworthy product ion, “The Seventh Veil,” at its Pinehurst showing, arrangements have been made for its return to the Carolina Theatre, Southern Nov. 13-14 at 8:15 P. M. with a Pines, Wednesday and Thursday, Thursday Matinee. This attraction, starring James Mason and Ann Todd is undoubt edly one of the finest productions to come out of the British Stud ios and has been enthusiastically acclaimed by all who have been privileged to see it. The laugh able, entertaining farce comedy which will come as a surprise to those who are accustomed to see ing Dan Duryea as a heavy, is White Tie and Tails,” coming to Pines, Friday and Saturday Nov. the Carolina Theatre, Southern 15-16, at 8:15 P.M. with a Satur day Matinee at 3:00. Dan Duryea, whose portrayal of the complete cad in “Scarlet Street,” and “Woman In The Win dow” won him Top Ten place ment in Motion Picture Herald’s 1946 ‘Stars of Tommarrow” poll, steps over onto the good side of the mortal register in this satin-; smooth and razor-sharp comedy about a butler who masquerades as a millionaire. Alonside Duryea in the pict ure, and matching his perform ance wtih equally agreeable port rayals, go William Bendix, back in the racketeering type of assign ment which gave him his start in pictures, and Ella Rains, who plays a society girl as society girls are in life but hardly ever in pictures. And the women will get more than their share of enjoyment in the display of “snazy” clothes by Miss Raines. Van Heflin, who won an Acad emy Award in 1941 for his per formance in “Johnny Eager,” plays a worldly-wise gambler matching wits and emotions with Martha, finally overcoming her and yielding to the finer love of Lizabeth Scott. The latter por trays a girl almost, but not quite, lost. Van leaves Martha with her weakling husband, played by Kirk Douglas, and they close the story with an ending that is the ultimate in dramatic realism. The supporting cast is headed by Judith Anderson and Roman Bohnen, and includes Darryl Hickman, Janice Wilson and Ann Doran. Lewis Milestone did the directing. A mud-filled canyon five miles wide and 600 feet deep has been discovered beneath the surface bf the lower Mississippi River. TAX SALE Town of Vass SALE OF LAND FOR TAXES 4.50 Sunrise m S. H. Barbara Stanwyck, who plays' the title role, is reported to be doubly as devilish as she was in' “Double Indmnity,” a role which: earned her the hatred of the aud ience, and almost won her an Academy Award. As an iron wo man, with heart and soul to match, she runs the gamut of evil in the guise of an attractive wom- jan of glamour and allure. She is capable pf murder, deceit, infi delity; indeed, only her capacity for loving with the same inten sity as she hates, distinguishes her as a woman, and not a de- JBSP.
